Suggestion: not as dramatic a profile, but a ranged support vehicle based on a mini Vertical Launch System
the embarkation compartment would be sacrificed for a section of missile launch tubes; add a crane arm for handling spent tubes and inserting fresh canisters...
put the tubes at a 23deg forward orientation to save some on the height requirement.
maybe a 5inch 54 rifle down the center of where the compartment used to be [you just can't say no to kinetic force. [train & elevate would be severely limited but Long Toms were an effective weapon.]
I was working on a purely fictional C-17 variant with a 5 inch auto-cannon that can deploy through bay doors under the body [yes I know 50mm is the biggest auto-cannon in anyone's arsenal right now, but] "Our Lady of Collateral Damage" has become an obsession for me.

Interesting propositions. That was the challenge and why I was so hesitant with the AAV as a basis in the first place, I do not think it's really supposed to do those tasks, since amphibious operations begin shipborne, with the latter carrying substantial firepower to support. Not really familiar how much inland they'd go before something like a Bradley takes over for troop carrying. As such, both propositions could actually make a lot more sense on the M2 platform, or maybe the FV510, or go with a more French-inspired ERC or AML platform. Really, this AAV is probably the most "slapped together" of all the designs I've done, for the very reason that there isn't all that much to add on the offensive for what it should be doing...
For the missile carrier variant, I'm a bit less certain on the feasibility, from a doctrine standpoint. Usually those missiles are really long-distance, so you don't really need to haul them around on the battlefield. Though still an interesting thing to consider.

I think you have identified a major problem of real world and fictional weapon/warfare design.
single role and effective vs. multi role and weakened.
My thought had been mid/short range bunkerbuster type loadout, but with the terrific man-pack and drone launch/cruise missile options
yeh, an unnecessary RnD expense with limited role and high$.
Amphip warfare is its own special nightmare for both planners and the men who hit the beach.

I am not very familiar with the AAV and how it's coordinated with other air and sea elements, but I suppose it could also be an interesting idea.
