Etha seems to be disinterested in and painfully bored with her life, however, it would be a mistake to take that at face value. In truth, Etha is a day-dreamer with a wanderer’s spirit. She often has grand schemes in her head and when they don’t come to fruition in the way she imagines, she can suffer from discouragement and disenchantment. Disappointment is the emotion she struggles the most with, thus Etha both consciously and unconsciously tries to brace herself for disappointing outcomes. (This is why she can come across as disinterested or aloof.) She has no trouble speaking her opinions, but she shies away from verbally expressing her feelings. At her core, Etha is self-motivated, brave, and curious. She enjoys learning, and can be counted on to take care of what she’s put in charge of. She enjoys a good challenge and wants to be her best self, and help others become their best selves. Empathy isn’t her strongest suit, but when she becomes aware of the needs of others she is supportive of them and helps how she can.

History: Etha was born to the Talon Family, one of the wealthiest families in Vale Town. As a child she frequently enacted great adventures with other children in town, casting herself as the adventurous heroine and leading her playmates to magnificent victory against their imagined hordes of enemies. She wanted for very little and had opportunities to learn, study, play, and grow mostly as she pleased. As she grew, she convinced her father to employ various tutors for her, and for a time he was willing to indulge his daughter’s desires but as the years went on and Etha left childhood and became a young woman he grew increasingly frustrated with her restless nature and visions of adventure. He loved his daughter, but he was extremely pragmatic and wanted her to get married, to extend the Talon Family’s name and prominence through her arranged union. Etha wasn’t interested in the role he wanted to cast her in, and the subject caused increasingly intense friction between them until finally when she was nineteen her father threatened that she either agree to get married or be cut off. In response, Etha packed up and left, proclaiming that she would find her destiny out in the world, that her exploits and adventures would bring clout to the Talon name, that she would become great and daring, a Hyrulian legend like tales of old. She knew a bit of sword play, and determined to join the town guard, planning for it to be her first stepping stone on her journey. She trained, worked hard, learned what there was to learn and ended up getting assigned to the town’s South Guard Tower. At first it was an exciting prospect and she enjoyed the challenge of climbing the ranks of the Tower Guard, but the ‘honeymoon phase’ didn’t last forever. She yearned for more action, more danger, more… anything, really. Being stationed in a Guard Tower waiting for something to happen was not the hero’s tale she had been dreaming of, but at least there was the knowledge that the work she did was of some good to the town. Five years in, Etha feels trapped in a stagnant rut and is utterly and completely BORED. She goes through her routines, does her job, and waits. And waits. And waits. AND WAITS. For anything to happen. Vale Town is a small place where mostly small events occur, and the bold claims she once made now stand as embarrassing judges over her and harsh measuring sticks of her accomplishments. To make it worse, she still crosses paths with her family around town with fair regularity, and the ambivalence between them all is weighty to say the least. The one comfort that has endured is the knowledge that her work does good for the town. She dreams of going off into the world and adventuring, but… the reality is she’s stuck for now. She has rent to pay, food is expensive, equipment that is always breaking. Still… when she looks out towards the sprawling wilderness she feels a pull to venture forth.

-Etha could sing very well as a youth and took voice lessons, but has fallen out of practice since leaving home. She can be goaded into singing songs once in a while.
