Description EDIT (7.02.2011):

So far I've tried to sum up who liked what
(sorry, it's not very detailed, but it gives an overall idea. Please don't catch me on every little point, if you said you just thought he was cute on one, but not like Artemis, etc.)

The final vote will be in my poll, so please vote in it too. Also, the final decision will be our director's probably.
(But she said she doesn't want to be a dictator, so she will probably just confirm everyone's decision.) So your vote does count. Please, help us choose.
(I might want to get a mix of them all in the end, but only if there won't be a definite winner.)

So I've been thinking... What makes a character look young? I tried to come up with some ideas:
- narrow shoulders,
- small face compared to big head,
- short limbs,
- definitely not a hair style like the one Arty has, but this is a feature that's supposed to make him look adult.
- big eyes? But in a realistic style I can't really make them too big...
- definitely not a nasty expression like Artemis'. xD An innocent look helps a lot.
- round face with delicate features (compared to strong, sharp features of an adult).
- thin neck,

- any more ideas?? ._. I'm a bit hopeless here... ;_;''

+++

I tried my best to draw him in every possible style and position... now - I need your help. xD
Please help us choose a right Artemis for the movie~! D : Own ideas much appreaciated too!

+++

If you love "Artemis Fowl" series, please help us with a fan-made movie~! : D

1- I can see you, you know.
2- Well, that bill was higher than usual ...
3- Look at all of those books written by the inferior.
4- I got here first. Move on.
5- I hope nobody notices that I stole that 20 million dollars ...
6- Strange. I don't usually find stupid things interesting.
7- Shit! I forgot to transfer The Churchill Account!
8- I am pretending to listen. But I'm not. Shut up.
9- Fucking Hell I can't think of anything to say ... how is that even possible?
10- Do you really think that's necessary?
11- And then, to stall them, I shall place the twins' Lego in the hallway!
12- Bet you feel stupid now. You know why?
Because you are.
12- Damn, the fuck are you on?
Love this. Just had to add this to tell of the expressions.
Excuse the curses please.

Oh, and a larger head on (as you said already) a slimmer neck and narrow shoulders helps. Trying to also avoid shadows around the eyes whenever possible with younger characters also helps, because to me that just looks sinister, which is typically found in older characters (not that Artemis isn't sinister at times, especially as a litle kid!). I think that 48 looks like a really great indignant, rather "What in the name of all things unlawful and profitable is THAT??" approx. 8-year-old Artemis. The nose really does it, too.

jdamascus [2011-07-17 21:17:13 +0000 UTC]

In five he looks rather peaky and out of sorts...scary Arty . And, I think roundness of the face, larger eyes and height are definately characteristics of a young-looking figure. Also, the severity of the jawline and eyebrows can be indicators of age. I think.

A little tip, try to include the concave going from the eyebrow to the cheekbone to add to the facial 3d-ness but otherwise very good!

I love the sketches!!! you can't seem to make him look older than 17 no matter how old you label him, but I still love the small subtleties that help you to differ the younger ages. I love 40, but that still looks about 16 to me. these sketches are love though.

Hmm.... if you're going by what I would consider the most 12-year-old-ish, I would go with 2, 30, and possibly 37. As for what makes a person look younger? ....Um, I can't be much help in that area, haha. >.<" Um, I'd just say to make sure that the facial features aren't too large, and although MOST children would have rounder faces, for Artemis I would actually think that his face should be more on the thinner side, with sharper features.... that's just my opinion though, based on how I've always pictured him. Ya know... kinda more boney.... usually with high cheekbones. (....That was kinda random....) xD

For my absolute favorite though, I'd have to vote for 38. That's almost EXACTLY how I've always pictured Artemis, with the sort-of-neat-but-still-slightly-messy hair, especially. His eyes, nose, and mouth all fit his face perfectly, and his expression is very Artemis-y. (I'm just making up my own words now... yay... xD)

Overall, the majority of them are very good though. Those are just a few that stood out to me, though there were more.

...

And I don't know if you're taking volunteers to help with your movie, but I'd be glad to give you some assistance, though I doubt I could do much. >.<

(Basically, my people-drawing skills are pretty suckish - especially compared to yours, though I like to think that I'm improving - I don't have Photoshop - or any computer-coloring method, really - I can't download anything that's not free, and I don't have any type of animation software. Essentially all I can color with are colored pencils, which I like to think I'm fairly good at, but I doubt you guys want your movie to be colored using colored pencils. xP)

So yeah, I could probably bring you guys coffee and stuff, but that's about it. (That was a ((very lame)) joke.... xP) I mean, IF you can find something for me to do, then I'd be happy to help you. Just putting that out there.

....

Woah... I need to stop writing such long comments... ...if you actually read this whole thing, then I applaude you. xD

And.... I am replying to myself. (This is due to the fact that you cannot edit your previous comments... bleck.) xP

...ANYWAYS...

I took a peak inside your movie group... and it looks really... intense. >.< I have a feeling that with school and stuff, I just wouldn't be able to keep up with something like that, so... I guess I'll have to retract my previous offer to help, sorry.

Maybe I can help during the summer or something, when there's no school. =/

(Although, once again, I doubt that I could do much to help you, so it probably doesn't really matter to you anyway...) Dx

Sorry again.... it's just... too much. >.<

(CURSE YOU HOMEWORK!!! ....Which I should be doing right now, actually. Dx)

*Feels applauded*

Um. Actually, your situation isn't too different from mine. xD; I have school all the time and I'm one of the most "lazy" members of our band (meaning I do the least, because I always have other stuff to do... ;0;'' ). But when holidays come (like now xD) I try to make up for my absences. Also, we have a great leader, Aicent, who is really young, but has a lot of enthusiasm for this project and always gets us moving. I usually get from her like... a bazillion notes a month, so that I never forget to do my work in the end. xD (Which really helps!)
I think you'll be fine if you just say that you don't have too much time, but want to help with anything. :3 And even supporting us emotionally is a great help too! Maybe if you try learning how to animate now, you could do animations for us in the future...? :3 We've been here almost a year, so I think this club will be around for a little while longer. : D Possibly with some actual achievements. ^_^

Servalgal215 In reply to Megan-Uosiu [2011-02-09 23:50:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, whether or not I can actually help you guys physically, I will offer emotional support and stuff, 'cause I think what you guys are trying to do is really aweseome.

And animations... hmm.... I'd have to look into software and stuff.... the closest that I've ever gotten to animations are motion effects on Microsoft Powerpoint and ((fairly crappy)) GIFs on GIMP. xD

I ((hopefully)) will be taking a Graphic Arts course in school next year, and I know that we'll be doing animations, both 2D and 3D, so... that could help me, I guess.

I am also currently trying to convince my mother to buy me Photoshop, so if/once she does, then I should be able to help more with stuff that involves that program.... (My birthday is in a week, so I'm hoping that I'll get it as a birthday present... xD)

As long as it's okay that I'll only have the time to participate every now and then when I have a break in schoolwork, then I'd be happy to help in any way that I can.

Numbers 6, 38, and 40 are my favorites. They match my head-picture of Artemis almost perfectly.

I've found that, in addition to the techniques you listed, lowering and enlarging the ears helps with making a younger appearance.

19 and 51 remind me of Pheonix Wright Ace Attorney. And 4 looks like a Rito from Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker. Neither of which are bad things, of course, I just found it humorous.

38 looks good for him being ten-eleven-maybe twelve.
6, 26 , and 33 are great for all years older.
To me, 6 is the best overall. 33 would be great for the non-slicked-back hair if it weren't as "poofy."
This is excellent, by the way.
