Three long exposures and tonemapped with Photomatix. Oh and a CPL filter to cut out glare and see under the water.

Sorry a cpl is a circular polarisor (never quite sure how you spell that) it takes the glare off the water.

I have a linear polariser thats supposed to do the same, but doesnt seem to work properly

The effect is quite subtle and you have to turn the filter until the polarised glass is lined up in the right direction... can be tricky but if you keep an eye on the water or shiny bits you can usually tell when it is facing the right direction.
