I've never been to the play or any play for that matter. But, I've listened to this play as I've drawn before. Really awesome music. Ever see or hear Sweeny Todd? I like that one too. Not the johnny depp one, but the George Hern one, I think. Don't quote me on that.
Any way, I really like the art here. I like the coloring and shading.

Thanks!
I have, and really enjoy the George Hearn/Angela Lansbury version of Sweeney Todd on DVD. Actually, I have the Tim Burton version too, but it's not as good. I don't hate it, but it's not as enjoyable to watch, I guess..

You're welcome.
I heard Johnny Depp isn't that great of a singer. Well, at least compared to George Hearn. So, I never watched the new Sweeny Todd.

For the most part, I like the supporting cast of the new version more than the old, but I prefer the main characters of the old.
I'd recommend seeing it if you catch it on TV. It has its problems, but it's worth watching at least once.

I like your take on Valjean. :3 He's usually depicted so put-together, even if he's supposed to be shabby. I like how ragged and threatening-looking you made. He really looks like the type of guy right out of prison, and it would be hard to imagine him singing, haha.
I love the subtle texture his coloring's got in it too.

Thanks! I feel like someone should throw a textbook at me for overusing the dissolve tool in Photoshop, but it works for a gritty feel.
There is certainly a level of anger and bitterness Valjean had in the prologue that I wanted to capture. There's so much complexity there. I think it would do injustice to the character not to acknowledge where he came from.

It's one of the longest novels in the world. Thankfully, Victor Hugo structured the novel with "save points" for the reader, you can read little bits at a time. I would suggest getting a big print, has translated french phrases, and every little bit(He tends to go over as an essay, like some writers in his hey-day, with a couple chapters being actual essays.)

I'm in the middle of reading of the book. I have to read it before the play, or movie.

I really want to read the book, but it's so big and the copies I see have such tiny text. It just seems so daunting.

This is the first time I've seen you draw a BAMF. You should do it more often!
