Thank you! I used paper clay on the styrofoam ball~ Just be aware of what kind of paper clay you use, because the top of my staff ended up being super heavy because I picked a heavier clay. I actually drilled a hole into the dowel and stuck a smaller dowel, (around 1/4" width?) into the styrofoam and dowel. This also made it easier to clay because you can just clay around the smaller dowel instead of the bigger one.

No problem! Hmmm I've never used creative paperclay, but you need a good amount, so if it feels heavy it probably will be haha. I actually VERY light sanding for mine because I rolled my clay out flat prior to laying them out and smoothed them out before letting it dry.
I actually used two paperclays when I made my staff. One paperclay that I don't recommend because it was so heavy, and a lighter weight for the designs. I used: [link] That one is really soft, light, and smooth. The only thing I didn't like about it is that I made the piece so think so it chipped off when I accidentally hit it against something xD But if you use it to cover the styrofoam you should be fine~
If you insert a smaller dowel to connect the two pieces like I did to mine, you should be fine. I added glue in mine so it didn't slip off. But if you find any clay that says it's lightweight, you should be fine ^^

Thank you so much for the advice Mei!! You are really helping me out with my first prop... hopefully it won't fail too badly hahahaha. It is really helping me and I just bought some styrofoam ^^
After you paperclay the styrofoam, and after sanding, can you paint with acrylic paint right away? Or did you use something like gesso first? And after painting - did you apply another coating of some gloss to "protect" the paint (like with clear nail polish XD...I dunno that might be expensive)
Take care for now ^^

No problem! ^^
Ummm I just painted right away. The ones I used didn't require me to prime/gesso it. Though if you use model magic, you probably should because it's more porous. Either that or you just have to paint more layers. Haha clear nail polish wouldn't work because it's on such a wide scale xD I don't remember if I did anything to it.. I think the most I did was spray a finish on it, like a matte finish. You can usually buy those or gloss ones at the craft store.

Ho ho I found that Premier paper clay you linked! Thank you for linking it to me! I bought Creative paperclay too before I found that one, so I'm gonna see if I can refund that XD You are right, the Premier paper clay seems so much lighter just by carrying it!! I think it will be better too.
I'm gonna stay away from model magic since I heard it doesn't harden up as much as paperclay!! so it can't sand well.
Thanks again for the tips Miss. Mei <3

Yayy, no problem!
It does harden, but it takes a LOT longer. I have some stuff I made out of model magic that's like rock hard now, but depending on what your time frame for making it is, waiting for it to fully dry may not always be ideal.
But no problem! Glad to be of help ^^ If you have any other questions feel free to let me know!

You make a wonderful Yuna ^^ the costume and staff are gorgeous. These pictures kind of remind me of the first time Tidus sees her in the temple of Besaid.

Thank you! Haha that is what we had hoped, since it was horribly raining that day, so we were trying to find some place inside the school that looked like it could've been in FFX xD
