Description WIP of a Faust piece I've had planned for a while now. I wanted to preview the basic figure drawings for now, which I way overworked. As I am clearly a moron, I haven't worked out exactly how the background is going to fit into it, but I'll be dealing with that and their clothes next, I guess. I may end up cropping or framing it. I'll give the context and all that on the finished piece. I've been staring at this way too long.... Will scrap when I finish.

Suddenly! Faust is a girl? Don't feel shy with male anatomy, please... Or censoring by cloth on hips.

But I love their faces really. Especially Mephistopheles'

Thank you~

Lmao! You know, I actually was going to draw their wangs, but then I figured I'd be putting clothes on them anyway and it would be a shame to have to put a mature content filter on it. Now that you mention it though, I do have to just draw a big naked picture of the two of them at some point anyway. Don't worry, it'll happen...

Sounds good.
Because censor like "cutting organs" is no good.

Oh yeah, baby~ He never goes out without his sexy hooker heels. xD I was going to draw him in an alternate outfit and I think these are actually a bit shorter than his usual stilettos.

So envious of how you draw legs. How did you learn?
They look great without their clothes if you ask me. >u>

Why, thank you~ Really, just a whole lot of practice and observation. I like studying muscle diagrams and things like that. Old anatomical drawings and Renaissance masters' studies are really useful for that too. It's also a good idea to have a decent artists' anatomy book on hand to consult if you need it.

Lol, I really do just feel like leaving them naked after bothering to draw all of the muscles in. xD

I just really need to find some good ones then.
Living in a small town is hard =u=; we hardly have anything.
Any artist you could suggest? Renaissance artist or modern arist.

Well then you know you're doing it right, right there. They look lovely without their clothes <3

Certainly. You can't really go amiss with Michelangelo, both his sculptures and paintings. His figures have gorgeous muscle definition; you just have to bear in mind that they're super bulky, like a lot of Renaissance styles. Caravaggio's anatomy is pretty great too and his paintings are perfect for learning lighting. Bernini's sculptures are great for studying muscles and gesture: [link] and so are Classical and Hellenistic sculpture: [link] Also, Victorian medical illustrations are nice for a really technical breakdown. As far as books go, I think your best bet is probably Amazon. They have a pretty good selection. I have one by Burne Hogarth that I like, but his stuff is pretty stylized, so it might not be useful if the style's not your cup of tea. Hope it helps~

EIIII THANK YOU. I look this stuff up.
I actually do look at statues and thing >u>; it's not going well but I think it's helping me improve...hopefully.
Also, the name Caravaggio sounds painfully familiar, so I HAVE to look him up now or the curiosity will kill me.
Also...the books aren't cheap are they?
Oh well, sounds like it's worth it.
Thank you so much.

Quite welcome~ Glad to be of help! Statues are even better for study than paintings much of the time since they're actually 3-dimensional. I can almost guarantee you've seen a Caravaggio painting or two before. Some of them are shown pretty commonly. I think his Bacchus, his David, Love Triumphant, and a a whole bunch of scenes from the life of Christ are some of his more popular ones.

I don't think all of the books are too terribly expensive. Mine was about $17 and another I got at Borders is going for under $10 now. If you search for artists anatomy books on Amazon, they have tons and tons of them. Some of them are pretty cheap. Barnes and Noble usually carries at least a few in the art section, if you have one of those around, so you could actually thumb through the books before you buy.

AH that's where, gorgeous art work. Will have to look more into him, thanks for the suggestion.

Really? The ones I found are worth 20-40 dollars, but they do look worth it. I only managed to get a cheap one that will work for now.
I'll have to check Amazon another time when things are actually stable =u=;

Wow, $20 is reasonable enough, but I don't think you need to go as high as $40. For that much, it better be a massive hardcover volume with gilt pages. :/ Yeah, I think Amazon's the way to go. You can usually get some pretty good deals on there, or even a used one for dirt cheap.

Hah not even.
It's some really good stock, and is thicker than the bible.
I can't afford it though, I'm probably better off looking on dA or something.
Amazon does seem to have some really good cheap books.
Thank you so much for all the suggestions, this helped me a lot.
I'm kind of new to this whole book thing.

Yeah, why not? Faust had a whole act that took place naked in space, didn't it? .... I may have it confused with another play.

Girlfoxgirl In reply to Meiseki [2012-08-05 22:56:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, yeah, after the part with the space pirates they totally got naked. I did my final on it, after all. It's one of those edition A and edition B things. One of them has the scene with Pope and the space sexy times, I'm sure.

Meiseki In reply to Girlfoxgirl [2012-08-07 03:03:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that's right. It was the scene with the Pope. Fucking Elizabethan language, man. Sure, it sounds all highbrow and classy and whatnot, but it's really just a smokescreen for demonic space sex. Marlowe, you randy old bastard, you...
