I can imagine that it was a beautiful and impressive building, especially with most of the surrounding buildings missing or smaller in medieval times.

Yes, with the massive church and the castle (just behind me in this picture), it must had been impressive.
There is still, in the city, some old houses, from the renaissance time, I suppose. But I didn't took them in picture.
