Im really loving this tattoo, I think it came out amazing. Im considering getting another tattoo, but not exactly sure of what to get. I seem to keep coming back to the idea of a Koi fish, but havent found any that I liked, if I do possible to another tattoo, would you mind if I use this one as a template of some sort?

Hey!

First off! THANKS!

It makes me really happy that people are giving me a damn good feedback on my first tattoo.

Of course you can use this one as an inspiration or take it to the tattoo artist but please don't copy! This really means a lot to me and I won't like to see it like that on somebody else if you know what I mean!

So.. feel free to get creative!

omg I hate my phone, I replied back to this a long time ago and I guess it didnt send, damn. But anyways...

This is the best tattoo ive seen so far of a Koi ive seen (and ive been looking like crazy) And thank you so much for letting me use it is a template, I actually really just love the coloring job, came out amazing. And I completly understand that you wouldnt want it copied, I agree. But also I forgot to ask a very important question, how much did this roughy cost you? I know you got this on your leg, but I wanted to get it on my arm as a sleeve, and I just want to know roughly the price range I should ask for so I dont get ripped off, I was told I got ripped off on my first tattoo, so I dont want it to happen again

Sorry for not replying to you earlier!

Well.. It took me about 400 Euro I guess. Can't remember it at all. But don't try to find a cheap tattoo artist around you just because it's less money you're gonna spend on your tattoo. Go to certain shops and take a look on the tattoos they've done before and then decide. A good tattoo artist will make a good price for you. If the price is too high, the tattoo artist is bad. It's that easy.. believe me. You won't get ripped off!

Well.. asking friends who already got some tattoos may help, too. That's what I did. Taking a look at their tattoos and then deciding where to go.

And I'm sooo glad that you love mine. I still do so, too !

Exactly how long did the entire tat take? Like, session by session? I'm thinking of getting a koi tattoo as well, except on my back. On the last picture it said it was 5 hours. Was that 5 hours of everything (outline, shading) or just 5 hours in that one session?

I'm really not sure anymore! But all I can remember is that session 2 was a really long session. Getting that whole Koi coloured took us ages.

But well.. All 3 sessions were like 8 hours I guess. But it depends on how fast your tattooist works.

It sounds much but when you're lying there and watching him work on your leg time goes by pretty fast and you get used to the pain anyway. I'm not sure if you got any tattoos yet.

Danke dir!

elize In reply to melodicsunrise [2010-04-27 21:17:52 +0000 UTC]

ok cool, in that case i think the whole tattoo needs darker shadows like you were saying. a main style point of japanese tattooing is that there is alot of heavy black shading with a bit of bright colour. like in the koi each scale would have a bit of black shading and then the red to make it pop out more, and how the wave in the top left has black coming out from behind the koi, they whould all have black chadows like that blended into more blue, there should only be a little white on the very ends of the waves. also maybe a little colour in the fins would be nice.

Okay. I think I understand you quite well. But I'm just really asking for it, you don't have to do it. Could you please do a small color painting with my koi where you excactly draw the waves like you mentioned before ? It would really help me alot! Thank you so much! And if not, don't worry, I'm not your client!

elize In reply to melodicsunrise [2010-04-28 12:37:30 +0000 UTC]

im sorry, i dont think ill have time to do a painting for you. what i think you should do is look up pictures of other koi tattoos that you like the colour or shading on and show them to your tattoo artist.

kewl,
Finally finished it.
REALLY LIKE HOW IT CAME OUT!<3

i was thinking about getting one and i really wanted one but, i thought by the time i have grand kids ill still have the ink on my skin and it might look different as the years go by.
but am still thinking

melodicsunrise In reply to iheartchester [2010-01-18 18:14:44 +0000 UTC]

Sure it'll look a lot different.. but not as much as your grandpa's tat's (if he has some) because today there are many better artists than some years ago. Day after Day they are getting better.

And if you're thinking about getting a tat, then think about where you wanna get this tattoo. For me there's no way to get visible tattoos because of my job - but on my leg.. who cares ? I always wear long pants.. and when i'm a granddad in much years I can always put my black pants on for going to church (i think this will not happen haha)

I hope you know what i want to tell you with this.. If you really love it.. if you can compare to it.. if there's a really huge story behind it.. do it somewhere not everybody can see it.. I don't regret it and I won't do it either! (:

Choose wisely!

It's not that bad! I just got one today, I nearly pass out every time I go to the doctor for them, but this was nothing. It helps to get a good artist too.
