Description .. started painting again yesterday as part of my printmaking class (i made a dry point background then painted over top) and since i cant upload any of that work, i decided to make another quick painting in kind of the same style, but instead with a graphite/paint mix because im enjoying myself so much haha, i didn't realise how much i missed painting, ive gotten carried away with photography for the past few months.. as you can see im a bit "rusty" after not painting in so long.. going to keep working at it though

Graphite and acrylic paint.. 2 hours

how did you get your red paint to drip so nicely down? did you use water colors? or what technique did you use?

I used acrylic paint, and mixed it with some water to make it more runny.

Wow, I love the detail and technique you have used in this. The colours contrast well and it has an abstract yet inherently detailed feel about it. The bird itself, along with the birds in your other pieces, look very good

On another note, you have some very nice photos in your gallery. New Zealand seems to be the perfect place for photography, I was over there in late June/early July and the scenery is amazing. I got some nice photos (Especially of the frost and snow), but in hindsight I didn't take full advantage of the opportunity, namely in regard to the landscapes.

Keep up the good work

Thank you

Yes, Nz does have some lovely scenery, I have still so many places i want to travel to ..I haven't been to nearly enough places considering I live here.
What parts of Nz did you travel to?

No worries

I feel much the same about Australia, there's so many places I could visit yet haven't done so yet. As for New Zealand, that was my second trip over there, and we were on the South Island. We flew into Dunedin, then visited Queenstown (Skiing), Lake Tekapo, Hanmer Springs and finally Christchurch. On our first trip in early 2008 we covered both islands, but sadly I don't remember it as well as our recent trip. I seemed to be more aware of the scenery and environment this time around as well. It was my first time seeing actual snow/frost and it was rather amazing/beautiful.

oh ok Cool, the South Island is beautiful, particularly Queenstown Hamner must have been great with the hot pools in winter, especially if there was snow on the ground at the time. I've only been there in the summer, when its almost too hot to even want to go, haha.

Australia seems like a beautiful place too, ive only been to Noosa and Canberra (we were going to move there last year but it didn't work out).. there is so many places that I would love to visit, It just a shame travelling is so expensive, haha.

Haha fair enough Sadly though we were only in Hamner Springs briefly and didn't really get a chance to go to the hot pools. Queenstown was very nice though, where we saw the most snow too. Was rather scenic being surrounded on all sides by snow capped mountains stretching away to the distance. A lot of small things too, like frost covered plants, morning fog and icicles in the Shotover River.

Good point you make about travel being so expensive, rather unfortunate. I've only really been up and down the east coast of Australia, not too far out west, somewhere I'd like to go in the future. Been a while since I've had a dedicated trip anywhere but up north to the tablelands and Cairns with the rainforests. What made you contemplate the move here from New Zealand?

My mum had been made redundant from her job here and the only place she could find another easily in the same field was in Australia. She ended up moving there for a few months to work and we were going to join her at the start of last year, but it didn't end up happening as we had some problems with family etc. here and she had to return to Nz and give up the job there.
haha, im sorry if thats a confusing explanation...
I have to admit that although Australia seems like a nice place to live, im glad we didn't move as it would have been very stressful changing schools and everything in my last year.

Ah okay. And no, it makes sense Everything more stable now, if you don't mind me asking?

I imagine it would have been too, compounded by the fact it would be a new country's system. It's odd over here though, as far as I know most states have different school systems in terms of ages and how final assessment is handled.

Its all good now
Yeah, i think thats what i was most worried about and the transfer of my results from NZ to Australian education system. I think I would have had to redo some of the courses that I had done previously as they are assessed differently.
Feel free to add me on msn if you want, you seem really nice to talk to
