Description Watercolor, approximately 5"x12". Original is for sale, $65; email me at irkelm@yahoo.com if you're interested.

I was inspired by Ursula Vernon's bird series. If I continue the series I think I'll paint a male wood duck next, but suggestions are welcome.

This is a beautiful combination of colors and patterns. The bright blue really makes the yellow look like gold.

Perhaps a kookaburra bird from Australia? My mom has a childhood book about them that I absolutely adore. And did you say that Jesse or someone else did the tattoo designs for Star?

Jesse did the tattoo design for Star, based off a book of Celtic designs and patterns. I can design Celtic knots, but I find their stylization of animals a bit difficult; mine usually end up a bit more naturalistic than actual Celtic designs.

Ooh, yes, a kookaburra would be striking!

I realized that someone's comment above me was talking about little brown birds, and kookaburras are brown.

Well, I just keep an eye out for when you re-open commissions then!

Small brown birds, the little ones, are absolutely beautiful. Not perfect for your style--I see you doing long, continuous colors, like a swan or something.

Gorgeous!

a raven or a crow would be nice, one of those black birds with the native american red/black/white solid palettes like this mask [link]

that gentle gradient on the tail-feathers is very very nice. good way of emulating light.

I am ridiculously jealous of your watercolor skills. And art skills in general.
Everything in this painting has such depth.

And for suggestions.. Red tailed hawks are awesome.

Oooh this is so beautiful... I love the way it starts at the bottom with such deep colors and fades to the bright light. As if light is glinting off the golden feathers ^_^ Maybe I exaggerate but I do love this piece
