Description Fourth in my "Women of Japanese Horror" series.

Okay, so David Mack's "KABUKI" comic series doesn't exactly belong in the "horror" catgory, but if you've read the series carefully, you can definetly find a lot of the classic Japanese ghost story elements in the story of Kabuki's Ainu mother, Tsukiko. Tsukiko a.) was subjected to a sorrowful ordeal, b.) had a chance at happiness, c.) was then raped and died in childbirth as a result, and d.) came back (at least partially) in the form of her daughter in order to exact revenge upon her attacker. There's also several in-context referrences to the tales of Oiwa and Tsuyu, two very classic ghost stories.

*ahem* Anyway, enough rambling. This is of Tsukiko, her eyes torn out of her head by her rapist, pregnant with Ukiko (aka Kabuki), with the imperial flag and the Circle of Blood in the background, as well as her homeland of Hokkaido. On her sleeve is the vision Kabuki has of er mother standing under the moon in a wheat field.

The moon represents Tsukiko as a mother, as well as reflects her name, "Moon Child". I wonder why Mack didn't give her an Ainu name.

And yes, I realize how huge her breasts are. I was reading "Seraphic Feather" for boob referrence, don't blame me! *whistles innocently*

Watercolor, gel pen and Photoshop.

no, no everything fits. Even the large breast size. Majority of women have some form of bust increase due to hormones and milk.

This is really gorgeous, like so many other works of art in your gallery.
I'm fascinated to see that Kabuki's mom made it into this series you're drawing. You make a good case for why she deserves to be included.

Mack should be flattered by what you've done with her.

I think reason why he didn't give her an ainu name is a.) it really hard to find ainu names on the internet {i tried once} b.) the ainu people during that time were hated by the japanese , those are my guesses , if that helped any....but If i am wrong well, that sucks

I've never read Kabuki, but this is a lovely drawing all the same! The detail on the clothing is lovely.

"Seraphic Feather"? ( ̄ー ̄)ニヤリ
I'll have to look out for it...but, you know, just for "boob references."

I love your work! I am halfway through examining your entire series of Japanese women and I love all of them. This one catches my attention the most--it flows so well from the pregnant mother to her daughter's vision. Excellent job.

And in your defense, pregnant women have LARGE breasts, so it's not so much of an exaggeration in this case at all

Thank you so much! I appreciate the comment.

I'm always paranoid that I'm drawing breasts too big. It's good to know I didn't screw up this time around. XD Thanks again!

LOVE the colours in this one. The primary-colour kimono looks fabulous against the subtle colours of the pale blue moon and the design at the right. Great way of working the symbols/elements of this painting together too.
