I've done sketches before so far, I'm only an ordinary student in the IT field, not Art, I don't really have techniques and materials to clean up my rough, how did you clean up your rough anyways? if not with a physical eraser, any ways to do it in photoshop? Thx. One more question, I'm still confused about the clipping mask.

Hello I think this is going to help me a lot. I seem to have a hard time with the books I have on it. Now I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 so can I still use this tutorial? I will see. Thanks.

Sorry for my late answer.
I never use photoshop elements.
But if it has a pen tool, perhaps'll you be able to follow the tutorial.
I hope so !
Good luck !

You can do a drawing without to use a scanner. With the pen tool.
But it's more easier to draw with a rough guide.
Thank you ! : )

I personally use the lasso and geometric lasso selection tools over the pen tool, because you can unselect parts of the path you want to make before you actually make something a layer has to commit to in Photoshop. What's more, it's preferable to draw on layer and then use a layer-screen on it so you can adjust parts you want to keep visible with a brush.
Also, when drawing with the brush tool, I use two methods:
1. Freehand using a mouse, which works for certain strokes, but not everything, but it's still useful.
2. Click (starting point) hold shift...click ending point to draw straight lines. This also works for curves if you make a series of small straight lines in sequence.
3. (once you have an image selected) Edit > Fill or Stroke and adjust where you want your brush to stroke or area to fill.

Wow ! *take my french-english dictionnary.
...And I didn't understand everything.^^'
What is a layer-screen ? What means stroke ?
I didn't give all of my tips in this tuto. It'll be too long to write... and I do not master so well english.

Ah, oops, I didn't mean Layer screen...I meant Layer Masking.
Layer Masking: It's where you create a layer and create a mask over the layer and use black and white brushes to reveal or erase parts of the layer you drew. This makes things easier to fix instead of Brush History or Undo or Step Backward commands. You can find this option on a little button at the bottom of your Layer box, next to the "Lock Layers" command, or you can find it in Layer > Layer Mask...Reveal All/Hide All/Reveal Selection/Hide Selection. Also it helps to know that the X button swaps out Black and White brushes so you can easily switch from erasing to revealing an image. You can also use the [ or ] keys to change the size of your brush.
Stroke/Fill: It's an Edit command that allows you to mess around with lines along a border you selected. For example, if you draw something with a Lasso Selection tool, you can go Edit > Stroke... and create a line of any thickness Inside, Outside, or at the very Center of the selection you just made, this allows you to pull off some interesting drawing tricks. You can even adjust the blending and opacity of your Fill or Stroke.
