Description Aieeeeee! I don;t want to jinx it, but guess what major project is almost done? Hint: Hot Rod's giving us a pantomime clue. And it starts with an H! (Or simply click here [link] I guess) warning: it's not Transformers- related, so I'm just pimping it with fanart.

Actually, if I were to cast the guys into Hamlet, these are the roles I've worked out for them:

HAMLET= HOT ROD (the angsty hero who tries to succeed his totally awesome dead father/leader)

HAMLET SR. (or THE GHOST) = OPTIMUS PRIME (the dead king, a beloved military leader)

CLAUDIUS= MEGATRON ( the evil, throne-stealing uncle who marries Hamlet's mom)

GERTRUDE= ELITA-1 (the dead king's widow, and Hamlet's mother)

HORATIO= KUP (Hamlet's loyal companion, a scholar not a fighter)

POLONIUS= SHOCKWAVE (Claudius's chamberlain, an old man loyal to Claudius)

LAERTES= SOUNDWAVE (Polonius's son, a man of action but few thoughts)

OPHELIA= ARCEE (Polonius's daughter and Hamlet's much-abused love interest)

FORTINBRAS= GRIMLOCK (the agressive and militant prince of Norway, who becomes king of Denmark after Hamlet's death)

ROSENCRANTZ & GUILDENSTERN= THUNDERCRACKER + SKYWARP (interchangeable and treacherous schoolbuddies of Hamlet)

OSRIC= STARSCREAM (Claudius's foppish henchman. -Sorry it's minor, Screamer. I'll give you Richard III later!!!)

VOLTIMAND + CORNELIUS= BLITZWING + ASTROTRAIN (Claudius's ambassadors to Norway)

MARCELLUS + BERNARDO= JAZZ + PROWL (castle guards who first spot The Ghost)

FRANCISCO= IRONHIDE (another castle guard)

REYNALDO= REFLECTOR (Claudius's spy)

YORICK= BUMBLEBEE (the dead king's jester, also dead, who helped raise Hamlet)

THE PLAYERS= AERIALBOTS: (the actors who pantomime Hamlet's story, 'The Murder of Gonzago' which parallels the alleged murder of Hamlet Sr.)
THE PLAYER-KING (ie. HAMLET SR) = SILVERBOLT
THE PLAYER-QUEEN (ie GERTRUDE)= SKYDIVE
THE USURPER (ie, CLAUDIUS) = SLINGSHOT

Hot Rod is totally Hamlet! And Optimus is, of course, the king. Huh. Wonder if they really are father and son.

This is so amusing! I love TF and Shakespeare! (With the exception of "Romeo and Juliet". Am I the only person on the face of the planet that hates that play?) I just got through playing Ophelia! (Now we're doing "Twelfth Night" and I'm Maria...)

........Well, if you want to get logical, that wouldn't be Prime's head in his hands.. It'd be Bumblebee's.
xDDDDD!

still a-FREAKING-mazing though! <3

Haha... Have you ever tried Slayers' Hamlet? [link]
It's an old stuff, I just have found and it revived my Hamlet-fan-ness! As your pic did too.
LOL for the cast!!! And sure it needs a re-writing of the text.

oh, my... I feel a quote coming on...

To be or not to be [prime] is the question!
whether tis nobler in the processor to suffer the slings and lasers of outrageous misfortune...
or to take arms against a sea of Decepticons, and by opposing... end them?
To die- to recharge, no more.
And by a recharge to say we end the spark-ache, and the thousand natural shocks that metal is heir to!

Fun... loverly concept, and your image turned out quite nicely... especially the purple hue you added in the shadows.

This is actually kind of distrubing if you really think about it.
Was "City of Steal" a cartoon episode or a comic issue? I am a little confused here.

Mentacle In reply to drifting-willow [2007-10-17 12:06:34 +0000 UTC]

City of Steel, yeah?
I know, it's kinda kinky/creepy that Megatron insists on playing with Prime's still-living decapitatied head. Just goes to show that Megatron can't let go of Prime....and that episode freaked the hell out of me. Even now! The way that Hook just cuts Optimus apart....*shiver*

Shinju-the-Glutton [2007-10-16 23:52:32 +0000 UTC]

I thought Dinobot when I read the title. >.< Silly me, but seriously, Dinobot is a Shakespeare nut, he paraphrased and/or quoted him in Beast Wars so many times. Specifically 'Hamlet'...

"Alas, poor Tarantulas. I knew him well..."

On to the pic, I love the lighting. At first I was put off because it was Optimus' head he was talking to, but the artistic genius of it has compelled me to it. XD Rod's expressin pulls me into the pic too. It's just so...emotional? That's about as close as I can get. He looks so sad and introspective...

Great work!!

I couldn't resist putting Prime in as the skull, but in my dream casting of Hamlet/ Transformers, he's be holding Bumblebee's deactivated head. Poor 'Bee)

Golden-Dragon-Girl [2007-10-16 22:36:38 +0000 UTC]

Wow. Here I thought it was going to be something comical (I can't help it, Shakespeare and I would be best buddies but he would hate me for making fun of teh drama in his plays) and it's beautiful and emotional.

Well done.

(A comic book of Hamlet? Mew? MEW?!! )

Mentacle In reply to Golden-Dragon-Girl [2007-10-17 05:15:43 +0000 UTC]

well, there's a lot of comedy in the drama. I tried to emphasize some of the comedy in my adaptation, because it helps the drama seem more poignant.

Thanks!

Golden-Dragon-Girl In reply to Mentacle [2007-10-17 15:56:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I know, but I make fun of the actual DRAMA. (Although I do appreciate it within the play itself.)

I think I was the only member of my english class that actually laughed out loud when reading the Hamlet script. ("Crazy" Hamlet is so witty. X3)

You're very welcome.

Darling, I think you've overdosed on Hamlet. I think it has seeped into your skull and is devouring brain cells as we speak.

No, seriously, it's a nice pic. I like the backlighting and the way it's playing on Roddy's body, giving it the purple highlights and such. Very cool.

Of course, this is TFs. Hot Rod could actually be having a conversation with Yorick's -- I mean, Optimus's skull. Thus, the monologue becomes a dialogue.

And congrats on almost finishing!

Well, "Inspired-By-Manga Hamlet" would be much more accurate, but the publishers want to advertise it as manga so, whatever! Sigh...
