I'd just assume the Goddess would not be too interested in that sweets-colored, diet-Coke version of Norse mythology Marvel is creating... though I might be mistaken. At least the movies raise popularity and will encourage some to look up the sources themselves.

Now I picture you saying this to the Marvel Asgardians:

"You are the margarine of Norse mythology! You are the Diet Coke of Norse mythology! Just one calorie, not Norse Mythology enough!"

lol

So the "Frau Holle" from the Fairytales used to be her?

After all the times I've heard that story, I finally find out.

Really, I'm going to have to whack out my old fairytale books, and look for the few entries that predate medieval times...

If you are interested in that kind of research, I believe KveldulfR Gundarsson and Diana Paxson did a good job on "Our Troth Pt.1", shedding some light on the Elder Gods without becoming too much esoteric.

Meredyth In reply to asguardviking [2012-06-19 18:21:33 +0000 UTC]

Einherjar usually are connected to Odin or Freyja.
But why not?

Oh i was just trying to understand the concept of the piece.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meredyth In reply to asguardviking [2012-06-23 09:16:15 +0000 UTC]

The idea was to portray her as a goddess of life and death, the full circle;
Frigga holds the spindle and the woolen thread, aspect of the Norns, she is the spinner of life, and she welcomes her children when life has expired; therefore the wintery scene. There should be no dualism in this; the whole thing of good god vs bad god, life vs death, reward vs punishment in afterlife being later concepts more common to monotheistic points of view.
There is a German fairytale, "Frau Holle" by the Brothers Grimm, which draws on ancient Pagan belief, which is interpreted that way by author Wolf-Dieter Storl, but I don't know if it exists in English.

Words can't describe how stunning this is to me. The way the light and dark contrast, the line details, and the overall structure and fluency of it just give it an encompassing feel, almost like i could be there witnessing this taking place in the flesh.

Well done, very well done.

Vielen Dank for this comment, this is very nice.
I had the sketch done in late december 2009, then I had it in a drawer for just so long...
These days I thought: Give it a try.
Let's see if I can finish another piece next month.

Hope to see another conceptions from this mytical mythology not so easier to understand. Most of draw or paintings revealed too many cllassics conceptions, too old for generate the exciting of imagination. This one realize this miracle. Really modern and magic vision, maybe the best caracter draw i've seen about this archetype...

Meredyth In reply to Kamulos-the-king [2010-09-28 09:41:30 +0000 UTC]

This is very kind.
I think the view on the Gods or archetypes changes according to time. This is nothing fixed in a book, but changing, growing, as the world is turning. To keep that alive we have to look to the ancient images and connect with them (whatever can be found or recovered) AND reinterpret it according to our own perception.
I had done some images of the Mother Goddess - now I tried for her winter image. She is death, and snow, and Fate, and priestess, mother, rebirth, and Nature too - and of course she is beautiful...

Thank you for your inspiring comments.
