Description This is not shallow water, but even one flap of their powerful wings lift them up so that it appears as if they are standing in shallow water.  As anyone who has studied geese behavior knows, this is common and often follows a bath as a way (I suspect) to shake off the excess water. I also have a theory that they do it to stretch before taking flight. In that regard in may serve a dual purpose.

That's an interesting theory, Jeff, because I've seen Swans doing the same kind of stretching before they take off for a flight. I've also seen the Canada Geese doing the same exercise at the Copenhagen Zoo, although their wings are clipped so they cannot fly. Anyway, it does look like they are conducting an invisible choir or orchestra
