Are the runes ment to say anything specific, or are they simply there to be there?

Thanks, I wanted the on-looker to see runes no matter where they looked on the staff, except the tip.

It all depends on the stone, shape and materials. The old glue needs to scratched or cut off, the glue needs something rough to grab to, I usually like to cut a bunch of sliced in the top of the wood. Also the type of glue is extremely important, "2 part stone epoxy" Without the proper glue nothing will hold for long (cheap super glue).
Also there are ways to reinforce the crystal being attached to the staff. Small metal or wooden reinforcements is one idea. After everything is said and done I like to wrap it in leather to cover the glue spots and to add a little extra reinforcement.

ahho kay, i used epoxy last time, but it was general epoxy (glue-all i think is what it was bought it at michaels art supply)
i'll have to sand paper the area, i think part of the problem is that the person who gave it to me had... she-lacked it that might be why it will not stick
