This looks awesome! I was wondering if you have a WIP thread or something on the lemmasoft forums? I searched by "Hearts Under Blades" and couldn't find anything, but I'd love to follow your progress.

I rather think when you have full-screen "CG" illustrations like this, you don't need "sprites" (the emoting character portrait thingy). But that's just the kind of VN I'm used to. Maybe this is just a different style I've never seen.

The style is actually inspired more by Gust games, such as Art Tonelico and the Atelier series, than it is by visual novels. Their games are usually RPGs that revolve heavily around relationship-building. They feature rich 2D portrait and background art for their relationship segments, but the presentation is a little bit different. Our game actually plays more like an RPG in some ways, as well, there just isn't any battle system or world map. But the choices are presented more in the manner of a Bioware game than a visual novel in many cases.

See, its just that because the illustration itswlf alreasy has an expression, you don't need an extra faceset to show emotions. It just feels awkward to me. But its not a big deal. It still works, £'m just not used to it.
