Description “Until the end of days I would swear that a naked man, a dragon traced in blue fire upon his face and limbs , reached out to me from the grove…”

I want to umm dedicate this pic to Who sent me the Lighthouse Duet (by Carol berg) [link] all the way from Germany. And it’s her b’day too X3! I’m just finishing the first book (no spoilers please )… If I started typing how much I’m totally in love her work so far, I’ll be very late for work and you’ll have a wall of text to read. It’s so incredibly gripping! I love her sense of humor and it’s probably the first book that has moved me to tears.

I can’t say much about what’s happening (spoiler?). It’s basically our protagonist running for refuge followed by his spell wielding pursuers. For some reason, this scene stuck to my mind. I do absolutely no justice to how breathtakingly it was written.

A bunch o strange things happening, the composition felt weird, as do the colors… but I thought I’d experiment. Heheh… tonsured Valen is hard to draw!

Anyway happy birthday luv! I don’t know how to make-up for your awesome presents @___@.

After Song of the Beast, I think this series is probably my favorite by Berg. She doesn't seem to be able to sustain the poetical descriptions for any longer than two books.

Plus, less opportunity for torture when the series is shorter. Torture gets tiresome after awhile.

This was the first series of hers I read, and I loved it. (Also loved the Humor) gotta read song of the Beast once I'm done with some Pratchett books after reading the Rai-Kirah Trilogy I really needed something with laughs )

It's true, she's far far too good at depressing. And Pratchett is an excellent choice for cure.

Haha! it is veery hard to imagine him all tonsured! He himself didn't like the idea at all, did he XDD. If I were his sister I would have NEVER recognized him. And there shall definitely be moar X3!

LOL, not so much Gram as 'squire Corin' X3
...he is just too charming, you can't help liking him. Only people who are uncomfortable with themselves don't like him

It's awesome how he gets distracted by 'him' even when he's supposed to be running for his life XDD (the scenes before this one). I thought he'd sober down a bit after all that!

OMG. The Lighthouse books are so freaky. x.x They're truly DARK when compared to her Rai Kirah Trilogy (Which I love to death, don't get me wrong) But "Flesh and Spirit" freaked me out somethin' fierce.

This the first book of hers I've read. And my goodness, it is deliciously dark. I've chickened out several times while reading it XD;. Yees, The Rai Kirah trilogy! Bowie will be sending me those books as well @___@ and I am shamelessly accepting! I remember your beautiful fan art!

Bowie-Spawan In reply to MNat [2009-11-13 08:17:55 +0000 UTC]

...are you kidding? XD
I thought the Rai-Kirah were overall more evil (if I think of the happenings in Revelation especially @@ Poor Seyonne >_>.
I feel Valen is more cheerful than Seyonne.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MNat In reply to Bowie-Spawan [2009-11-13 09:02:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, Valen is certainly more cheerful then Seyonne, that's true! I just think the overall tone of Flesh and Spirit has a deep, permeating creepiness to it: from the descriptions of the land's muddy decay to the rather gruesome depictions of torture and death >.< You have to admit that whole "Bleed, suffer, die" thing is pretty intense! Also, disemboweling people. Uhg. (Shudder)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bowie-Spawan In reply to MNat [2009-11-13 10:09:18 +0000 UTC]

Yosh, but overall, the suffering of the main character (aka the one I associate with) is what influences the feeling of the book mnost for me. WHile I felt strongly for Valen and the things he had to go through were certainloy no cake walk, Seyonne is the one who took so much damage, it makes me all kinds BWAH

ATTENTION MERR; DON'T READ! SPOILER FOLLOWING!!!

I dunno, that whole part in Revelation when he's trapped in darkness and continually killed and reanimated...and later finding out who put him in that spot...
And the whole buried alive thing to drain an Ezzarian's magic...THAT's really awful @@;
