Description Straight photo, no editing except some cropping to center the image.

This was a wall hanging I bought from Earthbound that I repainted. The original finish was this butt ugly, half assed white wash, so I sanded it off.

At first I wanted to paint the body a bright turquoise or sea foam green, but my attempt at mixing those colors resulted in a much darker blue. I thought it looked more like the ocean, so I decided to make the goddess' body the surface of the earth. I deliberately didn't make the land look like real continents (mostly out of laziness), but the result is a very primordial looking planet.

The circle was painted a very dark, almost navy blue with speckles of white for stars. The thicker clusters of stars at 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock are the Milky Way.

Two coats of matte petroleum lacquer were added to seal the paint. Once that dried, iridescent violet seed beads were strung on fishing line and glued into the spiral groove on her belly. With the original white wash the groove looked okay, but once it was painted over it looked at bit out of place. The beads were a big improvement.

Lastly, I macrame'd a hemp cord to replace the original string it hung from. It's tied to D-ring attached to a screw on the back.

Thanks! It was the result of zero planning, much repainting, and some incredibly old paints, so I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it turned out!

I've seen those with the original ugly finish. This is quite an improvement! Love the beads in the spiral.

Thanks! I tried several different kinds of beads and those looked the best. They are from an old bracelet I had that I cut apart for the beads.

I used to do that with all my old broken jewelry, dismantle the constituent parts and make them into something else. :-D

OKAY- I ONLY TOOK A LITTLE BIT OF ART THAT HAD TO DO WITH 3D OBJECTS, but seriously your art is FREAKING AWESOME how the hell you get to have that sort of symmetry is freaking pro

Thank you so much! It's only in the past couple years that I started making pottery and 3-D stuff. Before that the majority of my art consisted of b&w pencil sketches and doodles. The symmetry of my pottery is achieved by trimming them on a wheel to get ride of bulges. Also, rulers, protractors, and drawing compasses are my friends. I'm so anal about making my lines perfectly even, lol!

I love your AssCreed doodles. I can work from photos, but I'm shit at making up poses and can't draw anything original at an angle, ARG. PERSPECTIVE FAIL.

The only thing that really bugged me about ceramics is that we were expected to produce a certain amount of work by the end of the year. I had a tendency to take forever getting a single piece just right, but dammit I'd rather have 1 really good bowl than 4 crappy ones!

I can't believe someone got off their butt long enough to make a procrastinators' club. The irony!

Thanks! I didn't really plan the design at all, I just got my ideas as I worked on it. I'm surprised it came out as well as it did, considering I was just making it up as I went!
