Description I was doing several things with this image. Practicing a bit of photomanip: The lighthouse, the snowy landscape, and the little man were all from separate photos. I even had to make the little dude's shadow (not that it was terribly hard, I'm just glad I remembered to think of it). I think it came out well. I was also screwing arorund with clouds more, as you can see on the largest planet (the one the moon the view is from is orbiting).

Anyways, I was going for this theme with this image: You'll notice all the worlds seen in the sky are green and with cities or just life on them, while the watchtower moon is barren. I was going for a sort of "barren moon protects home world" but I dunno if it came through. I also wanted this to be a fairly dark, blue/purple image, a contrast to all my other orange/red/bright images.

anyway, that's enough chatter. Enjoy.

I have to say the clouds on that planet above, are some of the most convincing i have seen from outer space haha.most people tend to over look the clouds softer aesthetic and go with the hard white shaving cream look.Nice and soft ^^.A great piece of art!

mindblowing work, just astounding. very surreal lighthouse setting, i love it.

The clouds on the large planet are amazing, it actually looks like a photo from space

whay amazes me about tis pic is the city lights on the plnet surface... nice little detail.
great piece, the concept is strong and so is the imgery. Quite personally i feel the foreground snowy mountaintop is a bit too highly contrasted and doesnt quite meld with the imagery above it... the interaction needs to be a bit softer.

Great concept, the colors are yummy, and your blending is amazing. lol, I'm jealous. I think light of the tower really adds to it too, even though it's a very small part of the picture.

great job, a very serene image indeed. The huge planet is definately nicely done, and the overall composition is superb. HOWEVER i found one flaw with it.... the shadow of the man. it's jutting out to the left, but the lighthouse is on his left, so surely the shadow would be on the other side? I know it's small detail, but yknow - after doing similar things like this you just tend to notice but otherwise it's good shizzle, good stuff dude

meta474 In reply to alyn [2004-04-01 06:33:56 +0000 UTC]

the light isn't coming from the lighthouse. I had to make the shadow to theleft due to continuity, if you notice the rest of the snowy-stuff, the light is all from the sun: which is to the right. But yeah, I did consider re-lighting everything so that anything in proximity to the watchtower was lit from it, but it seemed too easy to mess up, so I stuck with what I had.

thanks a lot for the comment, though. It's cool to see someone such as yourself noticing the work I do.

I would like to knaw on your brain oneday while you're not using it. I love your imagination. You've got such a sight for.... sereal calmness. Did I even spell that right? Probably not... eh well, you get what i'm saying hopefully. Its beautiful. I for one happen to like how many stars there are. You don't get to see things like that living in the city and it gives off the sense of unending space. I love it so much. I can't help but it.

I dont like your starfield... it is to... how can i call it... there are to much sars, which are in the near of each other... so there is some strange efekt...
and when u delete some stars at one of your ___ try to use something softer or dont take 100% delete power ^^ its difficult to find the rights words... this is my oppinion the PLanets are very well done and there i have no critic! BUT it`s still awsome! So
+fav

meta474 In reply to oeX [2004-04-01 05:36:25 +0000 UTC]

I understand. However, using a soft brush when forming your starfield is ill-advised since it produces dark gray and gray stars, which is undesirable. They still find their way into the starfield, but with a soft brush they'd be much more common.

But yeah, I was kind of torn when making this. I /hate/ dense starfields, but I felt it fit in this one, and everyone else seems to like a dense starfield over a nice, spread out one. Even though the ones that like it admit it doesn't look very real.

But thanks for commenting. I usually don't reply here, in the comments section, but maybe someone else will see my explanation and nitpick something else, instead.
