Description Greek mythology is filled with several mortals with noticeable good looks. Some are more notable than others. There's Narcissus, who died thanks to his own beauty. There's Helen, whose beauty started a war. And, perhaps most famously, there's Adonis, reported to be the most beautiful man in the world, with the fact that two goddesses fought over him to back it up.

Then there's Ganymede.

What's his claim to fame? He was a Trojan prince that was so beautiful (described the "most beautiful of mortals") that *Zeus* fell in love with him on first sight, prompting the ruler of Olympus to kidnap the young prince and bring him to his mountainous abode to become his personal cupbearer. Thus making Ganymede immortal in the process - something Zeus never did for any of his other lovers, which should go to show how much he had the hots for Ganymede. ^^

From what I've read, there's been some debate over whether Zeus was romantically in love with Ganymede or not, but for *my* version, there's no question that Zeus was wings over tail in love with the young stag, who seemed to reciprocate the griffin's feelings... much to the chagrin of Hera.

I think for the queen of Olympus, this was the worst of all of her husband's infidelities. It was bad enough that he slept around on her. It was bad enough that she was forced to share her home with his illegitimate offspring. But this... this time, he was practically having an affair right in front of her very eyes. And with a teenage boy, no less!

Of all my couplings, Zeus and Ganymede are meant to be one of the more disturbing pairings... because there's roughly a 40 year age difference. That, and Ganymede was 14 when Zeus kidnapped him.

Eh, I'm not surprised about Ganymede. I'm just saying, in ancient Greece, if you weren't coupling up with sexy young men at least once, you were one of the weird ones. And there is no denying this one's a beauty~ Mm=hm~

Besides, come on, when you're an ageless immortal being, year differences stop mattering after the first half-century.

Lol, thank you very much! Glad you like my design of him. I may as well admit, I'm quite proud of how Ganymede came out.

Oh, in my story, the Greek "gods" aren't actually gods. It's revealed that they're just superpowered beings (what modern day people would refer to as superheroes/supervillains), but back in the ancient days, they were perceived as gods. So the age difference between Zeus and Ganymede still matters, at least to a modern audience. ^^

Hey, I follow the same logic indeed, mate... and ooh, fair enough... but hey, if Ganymede's into it, nothing wrong with shacking up with an older man.

Maybe not, but Ganymede was 15 when he was kidnapped by the 55-year-old Zeus. ^^

Different standards for different times, mate. I mean, catamites... yeah, enough said. If anything, 15 was late. Besides, if you told me this hot hunk was 15 at the time of this pic (he probably isn't, but for comedy's sake, just go with me here), I think that'd be enough to at least make me consider whipping out the chloroform.

I said, "the age difference between Zeus and Ganymede still matters, at least to a modern audience." That was the point, that to a modern audience, their relationship is supposed to be creepy.

And Ganymede is 15 in this pic, yes. He led an active life that led to him developing muscles early. ...Although I'm not exactly sure why learning that he's 15 would make you consider getting chloroform.

It is a comedic statement of basically saying that he looks older. That's the joke. Don't read too much into it.

Did not expect you to include Ganymede and in this fashion, no less.......

You are clearly going all out for your story. BTW, will this be a written fanfic or something?

MetalExveemon In reply to Cambion-Hunter [2020-04-10 05:41:51 +0000 UTC]

Neither did I. But inspiration struck. xD

Aw, thank you, yeah, it's been a long journey so far... and promises to go on for even longer. ^^ But it's not a fanfiction, its an original story that just so happens to feature characters based off the Greek myths. It'll be typed out like a regular story.

I get you, MetalExveemon.

You are welcome, my friend. Well, that is kind of what I meant, a written out story, but the word fanfic seemed to fit best at the moment, but I understand. Go for it, man.

Another incredibly handsome mortal who is living up to his name of being a beautiful man. And a deer too. Handsome deer are some of my favorites (which is why i made Kyle).

Wow! He is very young indeed. If he looks that hot as a teenager, then he must be even more gorgeous when he's an adult. Maybe Zeus saw a sexy man in the future in him, and Zeus wanted to claim him before anyone else could. That's my guess.

But WOW again! Just look at the beautiful figure on him. He is lean and fit. A perfect figure of a body. Nice strong chest and smooth belly. And those handsome eyes. I bet it was Zeus's idea that he would wear as little as possible when serving him his drinks.

Hmm, I bet Kyle would serve Mena in this fashion too.

I wonder how he will play in the story. Excellent work!

MetalExveemon In reply to EJHusky [2020-04-10 04:35:24 +0000 UTC]

Awwww, thank you so much, buddy! I actually didn't plan on Ganymede being a deer... in fact, I didn't plan on including his character at all... till a certain bit of inspiration struck. I won't be giving any spoilers on this, though. Believe it or not, it's too complicated.

But oooh yes, Ganymede is indeed destined to become, as you put it, even more gorgeous as an adult. Huh. And maybe you're right, maybe Zeus did realize what the young stag would grow up to be. And besides, my version of Zeus is one of those "take what I want" types, and he's also not one to pass up on something beautiful. So yeah. Ganymede's fate was set in stone the moment the griffin set his eyes on him.

Again, awwww, thank you very much, dude! Yeah, I was real pleased when I drew this. I had already gone through *several* poses and body types and drew two other (unsatisfying) versions before landing on this one. I already knew I wanted him to be one of those "slim but fit" types. He's not supposed to be a hunk, but he's not supposed to be a twig either. Heh-heh, glad you like his eyes, though. Originally I didn't intend to give him long eyelashes either, until I remembered I did that for the Erotes. So I figured, why not see how it looks? Turned out, it gave him the look I was going for.

And you BET it was Zeus' idea to have Ganymede wear as little as possible! ROFL!

Ooooooooooooh! Lucky Mena! ;D

It'll be a surprise. Thank you again!

There have been multiple views on why Zeus abducted the young Trojan prince. Some thing he saw him as an "experiment" (if you know what I mean ), others thought he saw him as the ideal step-son/servant, but the majority think he saw the prince as the ideal suitor for his dear daughter Hebe. What do you think?

MetalExveemon In reply to Fail-Seeker [2020-04-10 01:29:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know what you mean. Meh, my knowledge of the whole issue is limited. I'm mostly familiar with the interpretation that Zeus and Ganymede were lovers (there are plenty of *very* old artworks that depict them as such; just google them), and I'm mostly concerned with my own story's version anyway.

Although I'm surprised to learn about the idea that Zeus wanted Ganymede to marry Hebe, especially since I read she wound up married to Hercules.

Fail-Seeker In reply to MetalExveemon [2020-04-10 01:39:48 +0000 UTC]

Hercules only wound up with Hebe in ONE take. The one where he ascended to Olympus upon his "death".

In another, he fell in love with (and married) Omphale who was a queen or princess of Lydia. As penalty for a supposed murder, imposed by Xenoclea (the Delphic Oracle), Heracles/Hercules was to serve as her slave for a year. He was forced to do women's work and to wear women's clothes, while she wore the skin of the Nemean Lion and carried his olive-wood club. After some time, Omphale freed Heracles and married him. In addition to having children with him, he is said to still be alive and hidden in the modern world in this take.

MetalExveemon In reply to Fail-Seeker [2020-04-10 02:07:43 +0000 UTC]

Ah. Yeah, there are so many different "takes." But I did hear about the tale of Heracles having to wear women's clothes, although I also read he came to enjoy it - or at least, he found the whole experience rather soothing, and it helped his anger issues.

Pretty cool.

Fail-Seeker In reply to MetalExveemon [2020-04-10 02:21:45 +0000 UTC]

One thing that made it easier (and likely more enjoyable) was the fact that Omphale even wore the skin of the Nemean Lion and carried Heracles' olive-wood club. Think that would help? Wearing each other's clothes?

I found these too:   &

Like them?

Glad you like the pics.

I bet both Hebe AND Ganymede could be the cup bearers of Olympus together, wouldn't you agree? There is no rule/law that says they can't, is there?

Also...you think Ganymede could have relations with BOTH of them? I mean, since Zeus himself was known for how many lovers he had outside of Hera...don't you think his children could do the same?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MetalExveemon In reply to Fail-Seeker [2020-04-10 04:07:16 +0000 UTC]

I read that one version actually did have them both as cup-bearers. It's just that Ganymede was Zeus' personal cup-bearer.

Well, Zeus was known to have disguised himself as Hades to bed Persephone - who is Zeus' own daughter. And some legends had Zeus bed down with Aphrodite, who was also his daughter in some legends (when she's not descended from the genitals of Uranus). And of course Zeus also slept with Hera and Demeter, both of whom are his sisters. So it's not too out of the realm of possibility for Zeus to share a lover with another one of his daughters.

Fail-Seeker In reply to MetalExveemon [2020-04-10 04:09:28 +0000 UTC]

And I think Hebe was the personal cup-bearer to Hera?

I never heard of THOSE two takes, but I know of how Zeus and Demeter had Persephone together.

Still, out of curiosity, do you intend to try your own take on Hebe?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MetalExveemon In reply to Fail-Seeker [2020-04-10 04:15:08 +0000 UTC]

Probably. It would make sense, especially since Hebe was Hera's daughter.

Heh-heh, yeah, there are *plenty* of takes in the myths. It's as bad as fanfiction, where nearly everybody gets shipped with everybody.

Nope. I haven't got anything in mind for her. She won't be appearing in modern day, and her role in the family was fairly minor. Plus, again, I'm trying not to overload myself with characters... which I kinda already have.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fail-Seeker In reply to MetalExveemon [2020-04-10 04:17:07 +0000 UTC]

Good point.

Seems there are some even I have NEVER heard of...and I wonder why?

Her role didn't feel minor to me, but that is just my take. Maybe she is the one who gets him settled into his role as a cup-bearer? If you really are "overloading" yourself with characters yet are still doing it then what is one more to the list?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MetalExveemon In reply to Fail-Seeker [2020-04-10 04:25:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, my main three sources for looking up Greek legends are wikipedia (please don't look down on me for that ), Television Tropes and Idioms, and a website called "quora." All of these sites (and I have gone to others, but not as much) have offered up different versions, interpretations and explanations for different legends and characters and whatnot. So there's going to be a *ton* of info floating around.

Maybe she did train him, that's a good idea. Thanks. But for my own story, I just couldn't think up anything for her to do. Plus, I already decided that she's one of the "gods" who doesn't get time-traveled to the modern day. She remains in her own original time along with several others, so therefore doesn't get to play a major role.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fail-Seeker In reply to MetalExveemon [2020-04-10 05:10:17 +0000 UTC]

Mine too...for the most part...

You are welcome, glad I could provide the idea. To build on it, maybe Hebe was the one who granted Ganymede eternal youth since Hebe is viewed as the Goddess of eternal youth youth, prime of life, and forgiveness/mercy. When Ganymede became her partner as cup-bearer it was said she took up another title known as the Ganymeda meaning "Gladdening Princess".

See where the idea of them becoming lovers comes about?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MetalExveemon In reply to Fail-Seeker [2020-04-10 05:14:10 +0000 UTC]

Heh-heh, well cool, then. xD

Oh really? I read that Ganymede was given the nectar and food of the gods, and that's how he gained immortality? Oh well, consistency isn't the myths' strong suit.

Oh yes, I do.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fail-Seeker In reply to MetalExveemon [2020-04-10 05:26:52 +0000 UTC]

I also base it off of books I have read, games I have played/watched, or shows I have seen.

I never read THAT take on the tale, what I have read shows to me that Hebe granted eternal youth to Ganymede. Then again, as you said, consistency isn't a polite suggestion when it comes to Greek lore.

I personally (again, just my opinion and nothing more or less) feel it would be proper to have BOTH of the cup-bearers there to serve the king and queen of the Gods. Besides, don't you think it would give Hebe more attention?
