This is nicely done, from the thumnail i thought it was a photograph!
You really have some great digital skills going on, i think that the only problem i have with it is that the it could do with some more textures in the skin, mainly the forhead. though i havn't seen the reference image i think that it would help to give it a less plastic feel. But all in all i love it, you have some great colours going on, the contrast between the darkness of the background and the brightness of the skin works really well, you can see alot of emotion from this piece, goodjob.

Stunning work. The extreme contrasts in light levels, and the intensity of the red contrasting with the white shirt and the black background work very well. This pic is disturbing, funny, creepy and delightful all at the same time!

I looked at the movie, and I can see a lot of time was spent on this, andf that makes it better than just a speed painting. What can you draw from imagination?
I managed to get really good at drawing what I see, and it could be anything I see, and I would draw it in photoshop, no problem. I went as far as I could at drawing what I see, but when it came to drawing from my imagination, it looked like a cartoon. No shadows and everything that makes it look real. So I almost had to start over, and redo perspectives, lighting and shadows, reflections, and everything just because a reference image is a no brainer. It gives you wall that, and even what you never understood. I learned a lot about shadows, and that was my biggest problem, from 3d. I learned a lot that I would have missed out on if I constantly drew what I saw. The best part of art is to do what a camera can't do. Your imagination is hard to work with, and it changes a lot, so you would need to learn ways to work with it.
I'm working on a image of a Gremlin, and it seems everything else is much easier, so I have quit on it for long periods of time, and I want to finish it just to not have anything holding me back. Your art is fine, but you need to use what you know, and stop depending on a reference, so you can use your skills to create something people would think is real. I'm sure you have felt it if you created a person that others think they have met, and laugh, because that is impossible. I just don't think it is good you hold yourself back, like I did for over 20 years. In the last 5 years I have gone so far that I never knew my art could ever be like this. So, just give it a try, and develop your creative skills.

thanks for a proper reply.in terms of drawing from imagination or refrence ever since i started drawing i drew totally from imagination,it was my main purpose in drawing really, the bottom 3 images in my gallery are some of my work from over a decade ago.what i found though was nothing but critiscm for drawing monsters or things like that instead of drawing still lifes.i stopped drawing for the last four years.
the main reason im using refrences at the moment is i just started using corel painter and a tablet before xmas, everything digital in my gallery is from the last 2 months.i also never drew in color or used paint very often in the past so im just learning that now.i have a million images in my head i want to draw and have been obbsesivly drawing for 2months now, hopefully when i get something how i want it to look i will post it.

I have something that might help when drawing directly in digital. I use a mouse, so I know just drawing digial can be a little hard, and you are getting the hang of it. So this link might not be much help with what I saw, but you never know. [link]
When you get use to colors, that will be a big step, because they are important when you make it look real, and that can be even harder when you draw colored lighting. I always thought that with the perfect colors a charactor can look like they are coming out of the image, but I'm sure that was my imagination, but it did help a lot, to just try my best to do that.

Scanning thru the page I thought this was a photograph based on the thumbnail. But I was like I don't remember Jack doing anything like that.
I am not sure what to be more impress about, the photo realistic portrait, or the detail of the blood
