Gift for ! I really wanted to do something with her Black Diamond.
The idea for this one did change part way through. I planned on having her smiling happily at Nacre who was (at the time) perched on her shoulder. When I completed the sketch it looked too crowded so I changed the pose a bit and redid her expression. I still wanted Nacre in the image though so I decided to use her as a border. She worked out wonderfully! The colors were difficult but I think I pulled it off well enough. <33 I'm happy with it.
Bri and I do an annual gift exchange together every year, even if I don't do one officially. She's been a wonderful influence on me over the years and I can't thank her enough for being so patient and understanding with the mess that is me, lol. Even though we mostly talk in spurts once in a while, she still remains to be one of my closest friends and biggest sources of inspiration. I love seeing her creativity as it often inspires me to do things too with my OCs and stories. 
I didn't quite know what to do for a BG though and I hope you don't mind. xD I wanted to put Homeworld there as the bigger planet, but Black defected from Homeworld long ago. It didn't feel appropriate for that reason and because I'm not sure what her stance would be now with canon events considered. She has a moon that she resides on so I thought of making a sort of moon-like planet instead. But then I added some other planets to reflect that she was in control of several solar systems. That looked plain so I added the stars and then Nacre took her place as a border because I was stubborn about still getting her in there.
You always have me coming up with new things to do with these portraits, Bri. xD I hope you enjoy your gift though. <3 I'd love to see or work with you more on Black in the future. She's one of my favorites of yours~

Oh, you~ I love doing our yearly trades, they are so much fun! I'm glad to hear that I could be there for you since I'm always kinda MIA or unaware of things. You've been a great influence on me too! Because of you, I've learned to put more depth and thought into my characters through research. I love that we have a habit of inspiring each other when we post our stuff! Good friends gotta stick together otherwise what's the point right?
Personally I think the background is perfect, I mean SU characters all have the space vibe but Black is like my undisputed space queen so I always asociate her with space scenes. As for Black's post-season finale and pre-movie stance, she's reconciled with White and her sisters because she totally missed them despite what she may say. But I feel she got used to being independent and wants to keep things that way while still associating with the new Homeworld but I feel she'd be more connected to Steven and Earth than anything.

The yearly trades are like the highlight of every year end. I love trading/exchanging with you so much, haha. It's always such a blast as it pushes me out of my comfort zone to try new things. And pfft, I've been MIA too though. xD I don't use dA as much as I used to so I feel pretty absent. 
Phew! I'm glad my decision worked out then for her BG. xD I was honestly worried it looked too plain or boring. Ah, I was wondering how she'd approach the changes. I figured she might be able to make up with them, but I wasn't sure how she'd handle them beyond that. Like reintegrating with them or not. That totally works though. I'll have to fire you a note sometime so we can discuss more. >:3 I'd love to involve her more in Eureka's re-connection with Homeworld and the Diamond Authority. As for Dresden, yeah, the canon upset a lot for how I was building my Diamonds too. I feel you there.

Nacre makes the perfect border. And omg, that would have been cute. Black with her Pearls is one of my favorite things. I'm sure she gets teased or envied due to her little posse of Pearls. XD
I understand it's one of my favorite things out of the year because it's not only a chance to get wonderful art but return the favor with art of awesome characters. That's awesome, it's always fun to do something new and branch out a bit. Dude same, dA has been so 'meh' lately to me. I mean I always check it and TH every day but I mostly lurk. XD Really? Well, that's good to see I'm improving.
Yeah, deep space is the perfect aesthetic for Black. I actually had a little written up that I was planning to update her bio with but then I wanted to see how the movie would play out first. XD Yep, Black is all about family in her own way but she appreciates individuality so she'd like her space too. XD She'd also probably be the first one out of the Diamonds to treat Steven as Steven rather than Pink since the main three were still referring to him as Pink during the finale. XD But yes, feel free to shoot me your ideas and I'd love to involve her more with Eureka. Yes, omg that kinda threw me for a loop. But I guess it was unavoidable. I'm may keep my Diamonds as overlords in my AU since I want Pink Panther to be the replacement for Pink Diamond in that AU and she'd be a fun overlord.
