Were you influenced at all by Xanatos for this character?

More of the character archetype, than the character itself.
the same trait that Lex Luthor, and Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin also have.
Maybe Xanatos was in the BACK of my mind, but he wasn't on my mind at the time.

He look like a pulp fiction villain! I think that's very suitable to Preston have a father like this guy!
I think also that the Auldman background made by you is great!

Well, as long as I was using the name of can unseen canon character.
I wanted to be as true, and authentic to the series as possible.
And, based on Preston's character, this was the logical choice.
A man who is just as selfish..but, more crafty,
Cunning, and not afraid to do things himself.
Preston is just a wealthy brat who rode on his father's success,
And never really accomplished anything in his life.
(Lex Luthor Preston is NOT.)

I think Auldman is kind of like David Xanatos with out his redeeming qualities.

So what would his relationship with his granddaughter, Pacifica Northwest, be? Sort of like a Trigon and Raven vibe?

More like him comparing Pacifica and Preston,
and acknowledging that his granddaughter is less of a disappointment that his son is.
(The reasons, I will reveal later on.
But, Auldman respects Pacifica ALOT more than Preston.)
In a way, this mostly mirrors the family triangle in the Kids Next Door movie "Operation Z.E.R.O."
where 'Grandfather' despised his son, 'Father' (despite how hard he tries to please him)
while showing more respect for his OTHER son, Numbuh One's father, who rebelled against him as Numbuh Zero.
Case in point. Despite all the effort Father went to to restore Grandfather's full powers,
Grandfather criticized him for needing help from others just to perform 'such a simple task'.

Auldman's the man. He looks like a real HARDCORE with his undoubtedly-cunning brilliance and calm, calculating look on his face.

A Bill Cipher pin on Auldman's coat. A sign that he's working with the demon.

It goes DEEPER than that.
Due to the Bill Cipher tapestry in the Northwest Mansions,
I believe the Northwest Family has ALWAYS been linked with Bill Cipher.
Almost like Bill is the subject of worship in a secret society.
To be honest, I am basing that whole thing in my fanon
on how Ivo Shandor from Ghostbusters idolized Gozer.
(But, perhaps I have said TOO MUCH.)

It is a variation of Preston's hairstyle.
It had to imply some family relation, but also look different.

I'm betting that Auldman uses the "bell treatment" or something similar on Preston just like he did with Pacifica.
I think that one of the reasons for the "bell treatment" on Pacifica is that Preston failed to be a "King" in his father's eyes before he died. And so, he uses the "bell" on Pacifica as a form of superiority to compensate for his insecurities of failing to impress his father.

I doubt it.
While you may have a point about Preston's insecurities,
I don't think Auldman ever used a 'servant's bell' on him
(Mainly because it's demeaning to use such an object on anyone
OTHER than the servants that it was meant for.)
The only reason Preston needed that Bell was to get Pacifica in line,
as she initially was once just as 'silly' was Mabel is (true fact), and wanted her to be like him.
As a boy, Preston was just as snobby, and amoral as he is as an adult.
he just wasn't 'good enough' as far as Auldman was concerned.
Make no mistake, Preston doesn't have the same problem as Pacifica.
Pacifica wants to be her own person, and NOT be like her father.
whilst all Preston wanted to be like his father, and earn his approval.
Auldman never needed an object like a servant bell. as Preston never got out of line.
all he needed was to give Preston one look of disapproval, and that was enough to silence his ego.

Pacifica was once like Mabel? That would SO COOL to imagine Paz being as silly as Mabel.

Yeah, It was implied in 'Northwest Mystery Mansion'.
Where when the Lumberjack Ghost was burning the manor at the episode's final act,
a family portrait of the Northwests showed a young Pacifica with an expression similar to Mabel.
Alex Hirsch stated that Pacifica USED to act like Mabel when she was younger,
but her parents forced her out of that mindset.
This actually makes sense, as Pacifica's main character inspiration
was to be the polar opposite of Mabel in every way possible.

Given what happened at the end of the series, Auldman wasn't wrong.

Well, Auldman had to raise Preston. So, he would know what he's talking about.
With Auldman, I wanted a villain that we kinda hate.
but, also root for whenever he chastised Preston ala Megatron/Starscream for being such a wimp.
Ironically, as much as Preston is concerned over how he looks to other people,
he only really embarrasses himself with his cowardice, and ass-kissing.
Auldman, however. is more similar to Lex Luthor, or Vlad Masters.
always cool under pressure. cold and calculating. and, a man who sees the bigger picture,
turning every defeat into a victory however small.
(But, when his rage is triggered. You'd better be glad your name isn't "Preston.")
Besides. the fandom hates Preston already.
and, who better to abuse Preston for them than his own, dissatisfied father.
(and, ironically. it also means that like Pacifica, Preston has "daddy issues.")
