Yinsen’s hopes for Stark to heed his words have been fulfilled. Stark DIDN’T waste his life, he lived his life to the fullest as much as he can and died with a grand legacy.
RIP Yinsen and Tony Stark. We love you 3000.

Let’s not forget that Iron Man way back when his comics started out, he... wasn’t so popular as he is today. So looks like RDJ and Iron Man gave each other what hey needed and now RDJ and Iron Man are VERY popular icons, in movies general (especially the superhero movies).
I have a feeling there are quotes that describe RDJ’s journey best. This for example:
“So if I were to wrap this up tight with a bow, or whatever... I guess I'd say, my armor? It was never a distraction, or a hobby. It was a cocoon. And now? I'm a changed man. You can take away my house, all my tricks and toys. But one thing you can't take away? I am Iron Man.”

When one puts it into that kind of perspective, respects for the guy and the character have gone way up.

He has his own story for when he decided to turn his life around.
Apart from his latest wife telling him to break his addiction (as it cost him a prior marriage)
Robert Downey also states that he had his epiphany when he ate a Cheeseburger.
(sound familiar?)
he said the way it was prepared was..a mess. and, inspired him to clean up his act.
If this is true, then we may have the origin of Tony Stark's "I want an American Cheeseburger" quirk.
Which was later revisited with Morgan Stark at the end of Endgame.

This is quite good.
Yeah, some actors complain about how playing a role ruined their lives/careers, but this was exactly the opposite.
And you're right about Tony and Downey's lives being similar. I remember that, the first time I saw Iron Man in cable, the promos announced it as 'Robert Downey Jr playing Himself'.

Couldn't be better said dude. RBJR was pretty much born to be
Iron Man when ya think about it. Glad to see it turned his life around.

Even Marvel Studios and Disney agree that Robert Downey Jr. IS Tony Stark,
and while they could, they acknowledge that it would be pointless to try and replace him.
But, more importantly..Stan Lee believed RDJ was the perfect actor to play Iron Man.
We may love Iron Man as a movie, but when said movie improved someone's personal life,
then it deserves more recognition besides just cool looking effects, and stuff.
