Description Gah, Firefox randomly closed on me so I have to re-type my big long description.

Well, I started this AGES AGO, actually. For those who have seen this already on Myspace, then here's your lucky day. You get to see the original after years and years (well, weeks) of trying to get it done, mainly the background. After school today I went and bought a nice new set of dry pastels especially for the BG, plus I needed to get a new one anyways. The BG took forever (so many layers) and I'm still not that pleased with the outcome, but then again I'm the only one who has seen the finished product anyways, so I might need some opinions.

Also. You totally saw this coming. If you didn't already notice, this is HEAVILY inspired by Amy Brown, the best fantasy artist/watercolorist that evar lived. If you have no clue who Amy Brown is, then here's her website: [link] She's another one of my inspirations. She can do so much more than faeries also. D: *envyenvyenvy* The stone idea was referenced by 2 paintings of hers, and I had to teach myself how to draw stones then. Also, I... I... I DREW TREES. I ACTUALLY DREW TREES. FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1ST OR 2ND GRADE. I AVOIDED THEM SINCE THEN AND THE OUTCOME IS DECENT CONSIDERING. Ah drew sum treeeez! Mah lawrd. Also, the cloth thinger was inspired by Brown's garments, and the figure was meant to be partially naked, so don't go "ew I see bewbies" or you'll get forked. Also, I forgot to pen in my signature in the original so I had to draw it in on PSP X. I apologize for it looking different on the print and this version. I ish stupid sometimes.

This is one piece where I actually put as much time/effort/detail into just about every part of it as I could, which is rare for me and it's something I have to do more often because I feel as if I don't concentrate enough on my artwork and that's why my more recent works have been steadily declining in quality. But still. The most complicated parts were the trees and the stones, but, by far, the figure was the most confusing next to the trees. I wanted to make it more realistic and less generic (trying to part from the norm just a bit) so I had to concentrate a bit on the pose/anatomy. Only severe problem I see is her left foot. It looks backwards because I got carried away with the position and ended up screwing it up. I feel like bricking myself for that one, so don't re-remind me about it. D: Also she looks a bit stiff. Ugh. Ah, well. I don't really do drawings like this. actually, I never do. This is an example of how I'm trying to slowly branch out by trying new things, just like my last artwork (not the photo). Shyeah.

Well, enjoy! (or at least try to! I worked pretty hard on this!)

MATERIALS USED: Copic Multiliner 0.05 (black), Copic sketch markers, Prismacolor white charcoal pencil, Faber Castell dry pastels, all on bristol board. Border, signature and touch-ups done on PSP X.

Hands are often a problem for me and feet are something I'm trying to improve on at the moment (especially in this piece, the positioning of the hands was a bit tricky), but thanks!

Well I've been watching you for a while now, but I following the rules of the borum I now should comment as well.. I've loved your stuff for a while now and you're already on my watch list, I use your pictures for referance when trying to color right.. (still can't) I'm like.. a fan-girl.. for your stuff.. I voted that I would buy an art book of yours if I had money...

Holy jumping jelly potatoes! how can you draw and color so cleanly?! And I dont remember, but dont you use water color? Awesome body proportion and very detailed too. As usual the hair is flowing nicely with individual strands. A bit emotive ^^

Damn, girl! Did you actually color the entire background with copics? It looks very watercolor-ish, but I don't see watercolors on your materials list x.X

Mew-Sumomo In reply to cartoongirl7 [2007-05-06 20:13:17 +0000 UTC]

Nope, I used dry pastels. I would've used Copics but I was terrfied about destroying it, plus I used my brand new set.

Wow. This is so pretty. I really love the trees and their small little leaves, and the blue scarf's end, the little dots or sparkles, that was really nice. I also like the heart of stone. Her expression is so hard for me to describe. Like, in my mind, she's looking at it with small or little intrest, but somehow she looks sad as well.

REAAAAALLLY PRETTY! x33 Sorry.

I heard somewhere that Amy Brown copied a lot of her artworks. The forum even gave links to what was copied and Amy's version.
I'm just saying, keep me out of it.

But it's a very lovely piece, the colouring is absolutely beautiful and the stone texture is great.
