It's an excellent shot. The girl's face is vivid and the half-hidden face behind her gives a sensation of depth without introducing too much distracting detail. I can understand why people would think it beautiful and nostalgic, but it gave me a bit of a shiver as well. It looks a bit like a photo of a child being evacuated somewhere in Second World War times, putting a cheerful face on what she sees as an adventure.
