My entry to thr MMZ2 weekly contest over at CU.I wsh I had some more time to work on it, but I'm not going to be able to upload it in time for the deadline... unles I do it now, that is.
These two-manga-pages-in-one depict's X's death by Elpizo's hand, as it happens in Rockman Zero 2/Megaman Zero 2.
In the game, Elpizo "invites" Zero to the Yggdrasil Tree to watch as he kills X. Zero rushes to the site, hoping to save his old partner. But as soon as he shows up, Elpizo traps him in an energy field and unsheats his sword. This is were the doujinshi begins.
X is actually attached to a machinery of sort (I don't know if the detail is visible, given the small size, but ther are loads of tubes, cables and such attached to him in panel 1 and 3 of the first page), he's asleep and helpless. Elpizo takes advantage of that and thrusts his sword in X's core, shattering it.
At this point X is supposed to explode, but in the artbook he looks like he actually crumbles down, instead than blow up; sort of like an ancient statue succumbing to time.
I loved that feeling, and tried to recapture it to make the scene even more tragic. So X has cracks and tears all across him (he sheds blood oil-tears too, if you notice.), and instead than disintegrate and burn, his body falls apart.
I used two panels to show X's crumbling form, hoping to give the sense that Zero is watching the scene as though in slow-motion.
Last but not least, I decided to make the two pages overlap a little - the smoke and electricity bolts generating from X's dying core spreads through both pages, somewhat linking all the scenes into a single sequence.
The lineart for this is actually pretty old (2008, if I'm not mistaken?), and you cann se the non-colored version in ym scarps folder.
I rush-colored it this week for the contest. I hope the rush doesn't show!!! D:

I just realized that Elpizo's motives are a lot like Lumine in ways, and is about as crazy as she is (exceptΒ Lumine didn't repent afterwards).

Yeah, I hate that scene. Also made sure I kicked Elpizo's butt (though admittedly he did something neither Sigma or Zero could do... kill X) after this.
Interesting you mention X's body crumbled and didn't explode... a sign that's how old/ancient his shell was? ;_;

Yes, he is crying! I though the cene deserved that level of emotionl response from him, even with his memory loss. It's amazing you noticed, it's not a very noticeable detail! *offers you a cookie*

I'm not rather partial to emotional-wreck!Zero either; he was cool and collected (but a bit cocky?) even when he had his memory, so having him overreact would've been too OOC and ruin the pic.
And yet, I thought a few tears could be excused in such a moment. Sometimes a small detail can add an incredible load of meaning to a picture. And these tears work to do just that, I think. Whether they're tears of grief, of anger, of hoplessness or just some reflex he couldn't control, a reaction coming from deeper inside him than his memory banks. Γ§_Γ§

You make these seen look more dramatic that what I seen in the game (Even though I've only seen some game play) but I absolutely love this! The coloring, expressions, it's just that awesome!

I was never satisfied with how... "quick" X's death seems in the game. D:
I know it was impossible to expand it more in-game a bit because of the console, a bit because Zero was immobilized and couldn't react, but I really wanted to make it more emotional. And so... I made this.

I was really, really sad when X died. It broke my heart.
I always wanted to draw this scene; and hope to make X's death as sad and terrible as I felt it.

Oh yes, X's death was terrible. I was guilty of avoiding the Zero series for a long time because of that scene. I was so sad and enraged that my childhood hero was killed in cold blood without being able to even put up a proper fight.
But anyway, I think you captured the scene perfectly, you can really feel so much emotion behind it.

The flow and composition are perfect - you have a very good way with comic book layouts. The 'background' around the panels are also very nicely done. It's difficult to try and have them all blurred into one another, but you pulled it off really well.
The emotional aspect is done really well too - X falling apart struck me quite a lot (I couldn't help but go 'ooo' at his fine legs though -is shot- ) and Zero's reaction is spot-on (much better then his o_o face in the game xD). I think his mouth is a little bit wide, but that could be the teeth - teeth are an unholy nightmare to draw correctly >.O
Elipzo's posture is a small bit strange, but it's not noticeable (I think it looks right, but it's at an odd angle) - and he's not the centre of the piece ;D

To quote you, this was a work of love, and I guess it shows. That part of the gameis... heartbreaking, because X dies; but NOT ENOUGH, because X dies, and... that's it. The downside of being imprisoned in a force-field and to be on a portable console with limited resources, I guess? XD;;;;
Anyway, I was struck with this idea to manga-fy the scene, and try to make it more emotional. The pencil version was also a nice exercise of crosshatching, and when it came to paint it I (surprise, surprise!) experimented around to try and speed up my snail-paced paitning technique. *LOL*

If you notice, in the original 2008 pencil line Elpizo was drawn differently (it's up on my LJ and pixiv); but it was hard to decipher what exactly he was doing, so I re-drew him. But the camera angle is so odd, it was hard to draw him in an anatomically correct pose, and making sure the sword, X and Elpizo's own madcap face were all visible.
All in all, I'm satisfied with it. On one side I regret that I didnt have more time to paint; but on the other, with my editing freak tendecies I could've worked on this on months, and ended up ruining it, (or making it less punch-in-the-gut strong).

I always found this to be one of the saddest scenes of the game, not only because I'm a fan of X, but because his dead seems so... lonely. 
And poor Zero, having to watch withiout being able to move...

But yeah D: This scene is insanely sad, I really wasn't expecting it to happen the first time I played the game, I was hoping Zero would save him like he always had before...he'd never not saved X >___<;; His expression did seem sad and lonely, and I guess that made it worse D': For the hero of RMX to get cut down like that so easier seemed an unfair death D: And even though its not focused on in the game, I'm sure it would've had a nasty effect on Zero :C probably one of those haunting memories you never forget...

I was so stunned when I learned that X had to die. And he died such a sad, horrible and lonely death I felt so... cheated, in a way.
I'm sure Zero felt guilty about non being able to save X. And that guilt haunted him till the last game. Poor him. Poor both of them! :Β°(
