BOO Contest: Pumpkin Spice

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
*Listening to the Gazette's UGLY and lynch.'s 「CREATURE」
I was in distraught for the past few months. I did as much as I could to finish even just one piece. It was really hard for me to draw in a very negative feeling in a depressing situation. Neighbours are noisy 24/7. Dogs bark non-stop. People shout at 12am (Actually the shout shifts are 10 pm, 12am, 1am, 3am, 4am, 12pm, 3pm and 5pm.). Our new neighbour beside us has three children. The parents’ age same as mine. (Woah!) Imagine ten horses stomping the stairs. Both my mind and body got weak. My migraine got worse. The feeling of discouragement and loneliness was always on me. I got a new drawing tablet courtesy of my parent’s classmate. Two days after receiving the package, I was disconnected to the internet. The owner changed the password without notice. I had to go back and forth of café. I still have problems with our ISP from the old apartment. I have a new hard disk. My old HDD was totally wrecked. The files could no longer be retrieved. I don’t have many presets for PS, AI and SAI. I have to download most of it. Not to mention fonts, tutorials, movies, music and everything I need for work. There were days I fell sick and couldn’t go out. The smell from poultry and piggery farms grew stronger. People with vehicles point their cars’ and bikes’ exhaust pipes toward our house. Lots of CO1 and CO2! I could not breathe well.
I told myself to slow down. I read. I watch animés and movies. I listen to many songs and music. I even recorded some classical music clips from the radio. I play hide and seek with my cat. I talk to my mom every day and not just a simple talk but a conversation. I volunteered myself for doing groceries to get fresh air. As I put myself to whole again, I remembered why I even doing this: Drawing.
I’m back on my bumpy track again. It’s a little slow but I know I will be there where I want to be.

This piece is for llshvrst’s Boo Contest 2017 , a colouring contest. I haven’t drawn nor colour or draw in digital for 4 years. I messed a lot. I made mistakes but I learned many things.
I don’t have glasses and somewhat my eyes not used to LED display. Plus we have poor lighting. I work on the “receiving area”. My ceiling is the bamboo floor. The place is dark and---cold. It’s been raining for three days. I used 3 programs for this. It is not necessary. I want to make things faster. Flats were done on PS, some on SAI. Most of the colouring was done in SAI. PS slows down my system. Graphics from respective authors used for the piece are listed below.*
Before colouring it, I drew the dress on a receipt. (The kid is nekkid!) I always love the paper used for receipts. I like to make concepts in small piece of paper.
As I saw the picture, it was decided. “Her hair should be orange!”. Her hair looks like pumpkins stacked together. (I love to eat pumpkins.) Originally, I wanted her eyes green and pink but someone already did. I made the canvas a little larger to fit some more details and design. I removed the white background surrounding the character using Magic Wand Tool on PS. Deciding on the palette was critical. I didn’t want to end up a psychedelic, headache-inducing literally putting every colour of the rainbow on it. I adore warm tones. I love Halloween! Skulls! Pumpkins! I laid details and more details. When I was almost done with the dress, I added gears. Some of the details from the concept were disregarded. It became in steampunk fashion. The hardest part was the colouring of that volume of pumpkin hair. It tested my patience and stamina. Two days ago, I got my waist accidentally twisted. Sitting for a long time brings excruciating pain that shoots to my head. I did some 2 hour break when pain strikes. My favourite part of the drawing is the hat.
My style of colouring reminds me of Korean stationeries. I used to have a lot of them. I had writing buddies when I was a child.
I asked my Mom on cases I couldn’t make a decision i.e. picking the frame, brightening/muting of colours.
As for the name, I named the piece Pumpkin Spice because of that delicious gargantuan thighs and behind of the character. (An arrow hit me!) Reminds me of a chicken err…turkey leg.
I changed my signature. I had a hard time on my old signature. Maybe I want a change.
For those people who I owe art, I apologize. I’m restricting myself on a schedule to finish each drawing. Hoping for your understanding and patience.
Bath time is a luxury I cannot afford.
UPDATE 3:
I wanted to upload the enhanced version but I always forgot.

**(I downloaded so many that I could not even remember i.e. the large watercolour brush that covered the entire area (I downloaded it as far I could remember between 2009 –2010) & textures for SAI.)
