My second and final entry to jhasthedeathnote 's make an oc contest

First of all THIS was more like what I would have made with Teo as well: a scenary piece where the character seems to be a part of instead of just a normal reference sheet - it was so much easier with this character I felt so I went a bit overboard with effect so I hope it is not too much XD

After seeing how many did demonic demons I went with what was only a 5 minutes sketch at first when we suddenly started talking about the Snow Queen - This is Inna Frost. You may be familiar with her last name: she is a distant cousin to Jack Frost (which makes her kind of a fandom character but here me out!) - She lives in Russia together with her son, Sasha Frost (my first character in the 30 characters challenge I did in March *yep I just made you a mother and son pair - you're welcome XD hahahaa* 30 Characters Challenge #1 Sasha Frost ). Where Sasha is the spirit of new fallen snow Inna is the spirit of the inland ice of the Sibiria. She might seem cold and ruthless on the outside but she has a heart of a mother which means everyone in her care will never feel sorrow or despair. Those hurting her children though might as well freeze to death under her cold stare and rage. Inna is Russian for strong water which in my head basically is ice or snow so that is why I chose that name for her - Like her name she is a strong and independent woman able to take care of herself and her child without any men involved.

Now to the progress:
As you may remember then the first sketch of her had wings - after talking further about the movie the Snow Queen and seeing pictures of her I was inspired to give Inna a collar of feathers as well and then I felt like the wings would be a bit overkill - next sketch (which I will upload later in a st.ash folder to you together with the traditional reference sheets of both Inna and Teo) is basically how she ended up looking - the snow on her sleeves was a bit more structured with snowflakes showing but when doing it digital I find the silouettes of snow to work better :3 I wanted her to look graceful and the best way for that I thought was to make her into a fey (hence why she had wings at first) - I kept her hair long and flowy to create a great effect flowing in the wind while keeping it white as the snow on her sleeves. I didn't want her to look like a rip-off Elsa so I chose a soft lilac colour for most of her dress while letting her sleeves fade first to blue then to white to show how it was frozen in the cold weather. I added some blue and gold which is the colours of the Russian Santa Claus to give her an unique and kind-of-Russian look - My intention at first was to keep her feather collar white but I found the golden tips to compliment the other golden details very beautifully.

As said I wanted not only to create the character but the setting as well - for that I needed a more complex background - I chose a dark blue sky complementing white snow at her feet and accidentally by putting in the snow I made something that kind of looked like a mountain. Another experimentation ended up with me making northern lights dance over her head which I feel gives even more live to the drawing without over shining the character in front. After that I tried to play around with some luminosity and shade layers to make both character and background melt more together. As a final touch I added fallen snow (it should have been stars but this works just as good I guess)

I really like how the whole piece turned out - it was a great lesson for me that not to be afraid to fool around with other layers than the normal one

you basically have until July 10th to do your magic, i can and will make it longer if needed. So yeah, plenty of time get it? cause he's a time lord

Seriously tho i'm doing final exams next week and if i fail that i get no diploma lmao and literally a few days after that i'm doing college entry exams which cost more than my soul does and when i fail, which i pretty much know i will, imma get depressed as fuck so i'll need something to cheer me up
