Description I failed

Why brain - I had planned this to be a fun little thing where I could line a sketch I had but already just getting the lineart right took forever so here we are too many hours later where I could have made art trades and I am so sorry :'D

I had only planned to do one of these following SuiroAtair 's Sai eye tutorial  but I ended up doing one more being Hyan-DoodlesTutorial - Hyan simple eye shading  because I was far from satisfied with how the first one turned out
The two above is my normal style(s) to compare - the first (top left) is when I "just draw" no experimenting or anything - the second (top right) is where I give myself the freedom to try out things
But let's talk about the tutorial pieces because gosh OVO
First SuiroAtair's (bottom right) where do I start OVO you lost me halfway through - as soon as we made it to the 2nd or 3rd actually because you didn't say if I needed to make new layer or even which brush to use :'D (you said it on one layer but I wasn't sure if I should use it ANYWHERE or?) and then all the layers came and I wasn't sure if I could lower capasities or even blend or what I should do so my try ended up looking like a mess :'D I tried to save it by lower a few capasities but I must admit at the end I was so lost I didn't even realize how and when we added colour outside the pupil so there I got impatient and just did it myself - idk maybe this is too difficult for me to do where I'm at right now OVO
Next we have Hyan's (bottom left) - yours were so, so much easier to follow along to :'3 You did even managed to learn me about the locked layer option (but let's be honest it is easy to learn me things :'D hahahah XD) - I am a bit more satisfied with these but I still feel like they are very messy, not very good what maybe did make this experience a bit less relaxing than it should have been is that you had me change my adjustments on the pen tool and now I cannot remember what it was before so now I panick over my pen not working as it used too :'3

So all in all I am a mess and this could have worked out better :'D

If nothing else I hope you guys enjoy baby Frost X'D

FUU- BABY FROST IS SO CUTE KILL ME -steals-

Ack for some reason zooming in isn't working for me right now, but if I had to choose my favourite from a distance, it would definitely be the bottom-right. I just have a huge thing for light/glowy/shiny eyes. <3

omg you still keep improving so much!!! I love the different eyes - if i had to pick a fav, it would be the bottom left ones. Good job!

I am trying X'D ooooh you choose one of the tutorials OVO that's interesting I will hopefully soon get down and experiment even more following more tutorials and try to use all I've learned from them to develop my own eye style ^V^

I'll comment on Frost on the picture you uploaded, here let me just tell you what I think about the eyes. I'd actually use your own simple style for your simpler colouring and when you do your detailed colouring (you know the hair! xD) then I'd choose your own more detailed eye colouring.

hyan-doodles' and also SuiroAtair's style look nice and you did a good job with them, but they don't suit your style. For Hyan-doodles style you'd need to have a more cell shaded colouring and for SuiroAtair's style you'd need to have a more details shading in general (you know folds, facial shading etc) or else both would look weird with your current shading style.

Trying out tutorials is a good thing to see how other people shade and to get a feeling for something new. But I feel like it's the best to use them to create something new instead of just recreate their style for your own. That only works when you already have a similar shading style than the person who made that tutorial. That's at least my humble opinion.

Makes sense
I agree that is the most rational thing to do
Thank you and I agree - if I ended up using any of these it wouldn't be in the 'pure' form as here simply because they are from another style of drawing than I do normally and it would like odd My idea here was to try my best following the tutorials (which I most admit I am HORRIBLE AT OVO) and see how it'd go - I had not planned on doing so much with this specific drawing tbh more like small doodles with focus on the eyes so it wouldn't be so obvious how little they fit the rest of my art I hope as soon as my art trade wave has calmed down a bit again that I can try out even more tutorials to try to see what I like for each and maybe this way develop my own mixture of a style that fit with the rest of my art
I appreciate your opinion Isi and I agree with you - the reason why I haven't done so here is that I am still in the process of finding out what I like and what I do not like about drawing eyes and to do that I feel like trying out different tutorials could be a great help <3 (even if it looks wrong in the beginning when I am 'just following instructions' if it makes sense ^V^)

You know that's exactly the reason why I never followed any tutorial because you always come to a point where you don't know what to do because the artist thought it's logical what to do next but you, as a dumb beginner, don't know the next step :'D That's why I only looked for an eye style I liked and tried to recreate it. But I know that's not working for everyone, I just like to experiment with my brush settings :'D

ok that's a good idea, like a black and white picture with coloured eyes would look nice I guess

Good luck with your art trades and with further experiments

Sure everyone can do as they think it works best for them, and I'm not forcing anyone to do as I do, I just usually add my experience to show there is always a different way how you could work too. But I know that in some things for some people it's easier to follow a strict step by step thingy to get used to something

(no worries, I know what you mean! I just thought to add what I think about these styles compared to your own style, that you know in which direction you should go. Because I know some artists who can't really see the difference when they draw something overly detailed while the rest is pretty plain and shaded differently )

I am still not sure what will work for me so I am trying a bit of everything XD
I hope so OVO that way the eyes already stands out XD
Thank you ^V^
I agree it is different for everybody
(hahahah I see XD)

SuiroAtair [2019-01-05 01:00:22 +0000 UTC]

omg I admit my tutorial is so bad and hard to understand, I actually wanted to delete it xDD the way I drew eyes back then was much more complicated and it took a long time to draw them so I found an easier technique.. maybe I'll make an easier tutorial someday haha xD plus I was pretty ill when I made it so it's just a big mess lololol
I'm sorry it wasn't helpful, I don't even know why I had to make it that difficult XD the results look nice though, so shiny!

Hahahah I am happy to hear it was not only me being a confused fox over this :'D it was fun to try to see that I could make it work even if it was a bit more complicated than I had thought/hoped :'3 XD I am glad at least the result was okay XD (don't you worry I would probably be bad a it as well :'D hahaha)

SuiroAtair In reply to MicahandtheMoon [2019-01-07 07:11:37 +0000 UTC]

haha no, I was probably more confused  than you xD I only made it because someone asked for it so I kinda felt forced Dx
yes the results look nice with the rest of the picture x3 I think it would look a little weird if the eyes were the only thing that were detailed D: if they are detailed, the rest needs to be too and that can be annoying to draw sometimes haha
