I really like this effect as well.. thanks for the link to it! The red tones really help each other out, and make the focus on the watermelon stand out even more. The expression on his face is priceless. Looks like you coloured out of the lines on some parts of the car (just a tiny bit messy on some of the borders) but the overall effect is wonderful!
A square crop would work for this as well, I think... if you were to crop just a bit from the right to eliminate some of the blown out road at the top. His eyes are looking back into the scene, so it wouldn't feel cramped on the right.

fantastic. sometimes i find the b&w with some colours drawn out a little heavy-handed or laboured, but you do it nicely here. nice shot. perfect innocence with a tinge of apprehension for the years ahead. i love it!

*-* I love your photography so much. You turn the simplest things-- a kid eating watermelon next to a car-- into masterpieces. You certainly have a good eye for this. Great work!
Hope you don't mind if I use this for my desktop, do you?

Wow, I really like this idea...came very close to a favourite for me...I just think that the car takes your attention away from the subject of the photo a little. But I really love the idea, black & white + colour really help bring out the object.

I really like the red contrasted with the b&w. You did an especially good job with that.

I too think you have made a great job on the colours, and it overall looks very effective. Was he hiding so noone would steal his watermelon?
