Description I went out to take some pictures of the sunset/storm that was coming into the Mojave. It looked as if it would pass, but then it turned around and came right in my face. I had absolutely no wind or rain when taking these shots, but about 10 minutes after I was hit with a wall of wind that nearly toppled over my tripod. On the drive home on the dirt road the dust from my car kept blowing in front of me and there were times when I had to stop completely in order to let everything clear. What a storm!

Also, took about 10 gigs worth of consistent shots in this area trying to capture some daytime lightning. Let me tell you, it's not easy.

man this is incredible, the colors here are amazing and the perspective and angle and overall composition are fantastic. i love the stormy sky and how it counteracts the colors of the desert floor. i also like that touch of gold in the sky, looks as if it was shot towards the sun and no lens flare to top it off. the overall image is very sharp and the foreground is full of life (considering it is the desert)...it really looks like the polarizer and warming filters helped out a lot with this shot. i would love to be able to shoot into an oncoming storm, and this photo is great inspiration for that. another shot that is well executed by a great photographer.

Oh, man I love this. The intense colors just speak of the torrential strom to come.. Amazing.

Love to read your story behind the scene. It comforts me to know why I couldn't produce stunning images like this!

The storm is potentially fine,
however the cluttered foreground is failing you badly.
Are those Joshua Trees?
Regardless,
why not put one of them in the foreground
the next time you have an opportunity like this?

Thanks for your take on the picture!

In this shot I tried to capture a gloomy side to the storm. A dark foreground, the dead branches on the ground in front of me. If you look at my most recent shot [link] I captured another side to the storm, one that seems to suit you more.

Thanks for the outlook!

Yes, the other one has a more attractive foreground.
Sometime, tho, try a really bold approach to the foreground
a la David Muench.
I know with rapidly changing light
this can be difficult and
requires a wide angle lens.
Nonetheless, go right up to one of those Joshua Trees
and see what you come up with.

...and thanks very much for the
Allow me to return the favor

Not digging the colours, lighting, and composition in the foreground as much on this one as the other.

Thanks for the honest reply You're right, this one has a much darker and gloomy feel than the other.

Now, when you say, "Also, took about 10 gigs worth of consistent shots in this area trying to capture some daytime lightning.", do you mean 10GB?! Oh, wow!
