Description This is a lich I painted for Paizo Publishing's recently released Pathfinder Beastiary. The book is just out, and the reviews are looking good! I'm looking forward to receiving my own copy. I'm included with a bunch of wonderful artists and I was really honored to be made a part of it.

In the role playing world in Pathfinder, our DM made it so our adventuring guild is run by a goodly necromancer who received the blessing of the god of magic for his heroic deeds centuries ago to become a goodly lich as long as he continues to fight against evil. Its pretty awesome, he tends to appear when the DM makes a mistake with an encounter and he later finds that we just can't handle it. He tends to be a caring individual for those who join his guild.

Awesome piece though, love it! Would like to find a goodly version for our NPC guild master of a lich lolΒ

A benevolent lich! That's a pretty interesting idea. Like an undead Gandalf. I'm not sure I've ever heard of such a thing before. It's a cool notion. Thanks for your comments!

There are a few examples of benevolent liches in D&D, though I believe they all are from the FaerΓ»n setting. One is called an "Archlich". The other is called a "Baelnorn" which are Elves that have become liches so that they may continue to serve their people.

Great work. I wouldn't want to meet him on a dark night... or a bright day for that matter. His staff would be a lot of fun to make :}

It's in Bestiary 1. And thanks for the kind words! I have a few others in that book. The hound archon, the basindirond, the black pudding, the unicorn and about a dozen others.

Thanks again!

One of my favorite Lich pictures, first time I opened the Bestiary, I zoomed to go see how the Lich was, and fell in love.

All in all, Liches rule, and so does your picture. ^_^

Starting up a Pathfinder game with my group this Saturday, and the arch-enemy is going to be a very powerful Lich.

Stumbled upon this while looking for the Pathfinder interpretation. I have to say, simply put, this is an amazing piece of work. Just looking at it makes me remember the power and evil associated with these beings, and why only they would be able to match the level of darkness needed for this campaign.

Thank you.

Was also going to say that at a distance the tattered robes (bottom ends) looked like runic inscriptions or hierglyphs. Well, to me anyways hehe. Didn't know it was tattered robes until I looked at it up close.

Well i thought it had somewhat of an aquatic feel to it, dunno if that was your original design idea.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MichaelJaecks In reply to Irrediate [2009-10-21 17:33:23 +0000 UTC]

I can definitely get behind the interpretation. I don't think it was my original intent, but with the finned cape, the overall color scheme, and the crest on the skull on top of that boney staff, it's got that look to it. Perhaps he had some demon fish minions.

So, a landscape again? That's doable. Can it involve monsters a bit this time? In a way obviously so your figure will overlay of course...Does the issue have a theme this time? Cheliaxian perhaps? I'm just jonesing do something diabolical. Whatever the plan is, it will be cool. I'm hoping my copy of the Beastiary comes soon. It might give up some fun inspiration, as well as tie the Fanzine in nicely with recent Paizo releases. LMK whenever and I'll get to work!

I didnt' mean beside diabolical, more like: "in addition". If you wnt to do something other than a landscape, that's doable too. I'm just happy to flash your art in the best spot/way possible
