And I think of The Dark Crystal... (as if anyone was asking for my opinion...)

Reminds me of some of the really old dragons from Citadel Miniatures from the 1980s... aside from the fact it lacks the ridiculous fangs, the head could come straight from the Dragon Master's dragon, from the pic that got re-used as the cover for Steve Jackson's Dragon Master board game in '92... Ahh, a blast from the past...

Holy crap. This may be the most clued-in, spot-on, right-minded, dead center comment anyone has ever made about my work and my own relationship to it. I had SO many of those miniatures as a kid.

One little personal project I've been keeping in the back of my brain is to do an homage painting of that terribly naughty Balrog Ral Partha released back in the day. Anyone remember that one? Back in 1983, a 13 year old could just walk into any hobby store in Madison Wisconsin and purchase miniaturized, lead-cast pornography. I seem to remember Citadel released some fairly explicit slave girls as well.

Those were the days.

Alas, back in those days, the only games store in Northern Ireland was in the red light district of Belfast and they were discontinued by the time they started stocking Citadel or Ral Partha... Not that I'm likely to have bought them, back then it was the Airfix sets that were my thing, or lead Napoleonics 54mm...

There are still such models available, not from Citadel, but there are a few from Reaper Miniatures (Texas, USA), Assassin (Germany) and Excalibur (Germany)... As usual, the sculpt quality's generally focussed on certain parts. The 54mm Urban Legends ones from Reaper are a bit better, given they're produced with clothes on as well...
