Description
This is the initial concept of the Knave of Hearts for Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland".Obviously I had a very dark vision of the characters in the beginning of the project.
The background is a photo collage, the character itself is painted. After the initial designs, my process evolved into something more painterly and indicative as I became more confident through all the practice.

I think this Knave of Hearts fits perfectly if he ever appeared in Mcgee's Alice games since he has that organic look to him which is persistent with Mcgee's portrayal of the Queen.

Personally, I think this design looks very, VERY, perfectly creepy and surreal. It has more of the Eiko Ishioka touch than Burtonesque. The smile gave a strange feeling, like a nice welcoming person, but has a very dark plot against you.
I can see him as either the main antagonist, or the antagonist's right hand.

Holy shit, that's awesome. It reminds me of that Escher drawing of people made of coiled ribbons. This concept needs to be used elsewhere, if it didn't end up in Alice.

Would it be rude of me asking if the background image could be had as separate file? I ask this only because it would be a truly marvelous background image for any portrait picture. I'm very unsure about asking, because I wouldn't want to offend you with such a request. It's wildly inspiring me and I'd love to paint some character in front of it.
If I'm doing something wrong by asking, please ignore my words.
On a side note. A real shame that this concept wasn't used in the end. I like it very much.

I quite enjoy how his body represents muscle tendons, with a 'heart' in the center.

Totally better the chosen concept, but this is however spectacular.
More more dark and evil as concept, in this case.
But the chosen design seems more the "Dark Knight" that is the character, this is more an evil king.
