This is one of those pieces that sort of just evolved over time. The very first element was a strange wrinkled face that I actually ended up covering up entirely by the end.
But if there was any real guiding inspiration, I'd say it was the idea that this creature was slowly unraveling in an invisible wind, which is something that occurred to me about half-way through. Which is good because I had no idea about what to do with it before that.
