Looks like it's has all the flight feathers all grown up. When it will develop the blue shades of the adults? Or it's already blue? And we just don't see it because we don't see the back...

MichelLalonde In reply to Wintella [2012-07-31 20:40:51 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Wintella. Yes his back is much bluer but not as saturate as the adults. If you have a chance.. read about his feathers being all white except for the black part.

YS-Liliumsynth [2012-07-30 15:30:39 +0000 UTC]

isn't that bird a li'l too big to get its own worm now?

still, I'm always impressed how you managed to capture these beautifully!^^

400mm always does its job I guess!

btw question: you have an ISO 2000... can you make awesome shots with a high ISO but in open daylight? I mean, ISO's pretty much used for dim surroundings, right?

Thanks.
They are as big as the parents when they leave the nest.
Look, even at F\16 and very close, I still have a problem with the depth of field.

YS-Liliumsynth In reply to MichelLalonde [2012-08-04 02:28:00 +0000 UTC]

hmmm... maybe the DOF can be solved with how you set the metering...?

oh, I see. hm, that's how this bird's trait is, I guess.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MichelLalonde In reply to YS-Liliumsynth [2012-08-04 03:00:21 +0000 UTC]

Right. DOF is critical specially when sooting so close. Here I choose f\16 probably because the bird was not moving so I could use a slower speed.... but it did move . Notice I also push up the ISO.

YS-Liliumsynth In reply to MichelLalonde [2012-08-07 03:45:16 +0000 UTC]

oh, I see.

btw, how'd you been able to adjust things that fast? is it because of the D700 itself, or you're juz hasty and swift enough in adjusting?^^

MichelLalonde In reply to YS-Liliumsynth [2012-08-07 04:02:35 +0000 UTC]

No, I very very slow. The camera is ready for that exposure because I would have made a test before, maybe just the branches. I could also have made another exposure test under the leaves in the shades, just in case.

YS-Liliumsynth In reply to MichelLalonde [2012-08-07 05:05:57 +0000 UTC]

how do you make that "exposure test"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MichelLalonde In reply to YS-Liliumsynth [2012-08-07 05:32:46 +0000 UTC]

I still use a light meter, all our student use them.

O_O you mean, that device that suggests what settings you should put up in the aperture and s.speed?O_O

isn't that thing expensive?

i love bluejays, they're my favourite bird. where i live we used to have alot of them but now they're all gone and crows have taken their niche.

i was just wondering, and sorry for asking, but how do you put the thumbnail of your other deviations in the description. I've looked all through the FAQ and couldn't figure it out

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

MichelLalonde In reply to TheOrangeSpork [2012-07-29 20:37:50 +0000 UTC]

Many Blue Jays have been dissimated in certain regions due to a virus.

Putting thumbnails into descriptions is only available for premium. But then you just take the thumb code and copy-paste it in there.

Ok so if you are thinking of taking it as a career then buy the entry camera suggested by a photography college as their minimum entry camera. (our's last year was the Nikon 7000.

I actually chuckled when I saw this one. Good choice on the title, and I must say it's an absolutely beautiful picture. The vibrant green background really picks out the whites on this young Jay, while the sticks work wonders for dividing the picture right before my very eyes. ^^ I love it.
