Description The largest known odd-toed ungulate(and land mammal), Paraceratherium grew up to 20 tons and over 16 feet tall. Related to rhinos, it lived during the Oligocene epoch throughout Eurasia and fed like modern giraffes off the tops of trees. It's extinction after a successful reign of about 11 million years is a mystery. Perhaps it was out-competed by other more efficient megaherbivores like early elephants.
