Description When I heard that the new animated Killing Joke movie had added an extra subplot of Batman and Batgirl having sex, I just had to pick on it a little.  I know that it was mentioned in Batman Beyond but I always thought that the two of them in a relationship was a horrible idea.  It is like your dad dating one of your classmates.  It gives Batman a Woody Allen vibe.  Just creepy.  I have not seen the movie so it might possibly be good.  I just have doubts when they start adding unnecessary things to perfectly fine stories.

I used TerryMcG's Batgirl outfit, joequick's Golden Age suit, and lots of DAZ stuff.  I probably should have used an even younger model for Batgirl but I guess this character works well enough.

I completely agree with you, first of all, the Batman Beyond idea was strangely good: It showed that Batman, who will never hesitate in helping some villain, could be an utter bastard to his bat family, and how without Alfred as a parent figure, Bruce Wayne will not have developed enough feelings to know what a bad idea dating Batgirl was, explaining his lonely at the top status at Batman Beyond.

But in the Killing Joke movie, instead of being a cheap fanservice or expanding Batgirl's character, the subplot comes a totally creepy, as a relationship between two fetishistic people who hit criminals in their spare time should be.

The Woody Allen vibe you mentioned is so relevant because I think the writers were still in a pre Me Too era... Old and powerful men dating young impressionable chicks?  Totally cool and not creepy!

I love to see the Jokers face here, "Bats, that is why you will never get an oscar"

Joker watching in the background only makes things more creepy.

I think you're right - lovely image, but a creepy relationship.
Maybe more fun if it's not actually The Dark Knight in that costume?

Well, Dick Grayson did take over the mantle for a time, and Dick and Barbara have DEFINITELY had sex, so that's less creepy.

i think he just did a point. besides, superhero life is quite about trust and stuff, and if u think about how many girls overall have "daddy-issues", then a Batman-Batgirl relationship does not become too weird.

Sex sells, even if it doesn't further the story / seems out of place! Just look at Game of Thrones.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy sex very much but Batman and Batgirl seem like a creepy relationship to me.  Game of Thrones already had sex in it.  I would compare it more to them adding a sex scene in Harry Potter between Hagrid or Dumbledore and Hermione.

Haha, I need to erase those mental images now. What I mean is that sex scenes are often implemented just for the sake of it - no justification required.

Very true.  I'm sure that the sex scene was to help get the R rating.  It still makes me think that the people in charge of this film did not have a high opinion of the graphic novel if they had to add an entire romantic subplot to it.

That's the problem with adaptations, people often feel they need to prove themselves by adding or changing stuff from the source material, which tends to be okay if it's small changes, but if it's major changes then that also affects a bunch of other stuff they're not always even aware of, and you just get this cascading effect that affects a whole bunch of stuff down the line until you don't even recognize the source material anymore. The real art, I think, is transferring source material to a different medium and keeping it authentic.
