Description The Simple Life(forms)

Hi,

have I told you that I'm a fan of simple lifeforms? Indeed, I am! I always freak out when I read or see something about the ediacarian or cambrian fauna - it's so stunning how these simple animals are already complexe and agile. This compilation was made cause of boreness and perplexity - but the result is something I definately like! All critters are species from one biosphere I've already shown, it's called Bakyrn and is a world at the level of the ordovician era. Here are the first sketches: [link]
So, enough talked, lets come to the actors:

a. Wattkneifer (tideland pincher) - a real nasty omnivore animal, pinching and eating plants and smaller animals around the clock

b. Kaiserknolle (Kaiser's corm) - a beautiful sea plant, a mix of coral and kelp, some subspecies have entered the shore regions to conquer the land masses of Bakyrn

c. Großer Strangler/Strandangler (great beach angler) - a lazy dweller, quite similar to monkfish

d. Nesselschnecke (nettle slug) - another nasty creature, comparable to globefish, but more aggressive and hungry

e. Porenkoralle (pore coral) - ? don't ask me, what this is . . . something like a sponge with algae symbionts? makes bubbles!

f. Wogenschlucker (billow gulper) - a filter invertebrate, really huge for a invertebrate - its about two meters long

g. Riffgespenst (reef spook) - a strange and creepy animal, floating along the reefs of Bakyrn, reminds me of something from Barlowe

h. Wucherfüßer (extortiopode) - a worm-like animal, the legs are growing without end til it reaches about 10 meters, then the Wucherfüßer splits itself up in 5 to 8 parts (not reproduction!), every part has the same gender, this way to live boosts the chances to survive

i. Wanderhelm (hiking helmet) - a snail-like animal, really slow and kind of boring, but I like that helmet!

j. Boot des Verderbens (boat of perdition) - a shadow from the depth of sea, no one knows really much about it, but its definately not friendly!

So, thats it! Hope you like my little and simple lifeforms! My favourite this time is the Wanderhelm. Which one do you prefer? Please tell me, keep on watching and dont forget to comment!

Wow, so cool! (Oi, and anyone who thinks snails are boring hasn't watched them. They're mischievous! Really! Their vengeance is slow but vengeful!

No problem!

Yeah, they've no idea what they've unleashed until they get snails for their tanks. My beta used to nip at the snails' antenna, so they would slowly climb up the edge of the fishbowl (it was a classic round one) and then drop down on the fish! Scared the thing half to death. Then when he'd settled down again they'd climb up the rim and start it all again.

these creatures all look so different! its as if each one is from a different biosphere. it is stunning to see these animals evolve into different shapes and sizes! i love all of them, but i have to love the Strandangler. you made a great perspective of it and im gonna guess its a carnivore since its similar to a monkfish.

yes, the Strandangler is a carnivore! i designed all creatures this way to show an equivalent to the cambrian explosion, where all creatures looked they came from different planets!

does the planet only have one super continent or are they seperated? or is it a terrestrial planet anyway?

MickMcDee In reply to RawrReaper [2011-08-30 19:25:02 +0000 UTC]

yes, its a terrestrial planet! there are some smaller continents and a huge mass shores at them, a lot of space for coast creatures to develope!

Very nicely done! Love them all but B and E are my favourites! E especially conveys some kind of innocent emotion to me that i find intriguing. I love how it makes bubbles hehehe

I love it when people pay attention to the smaller fauna and flora. They deserve some love.
Wattkneifer and Porenkoralle are my favorites.
