Description

Maastrichtian Age of the Late Cretaceous, North America

One of the best-known dinosaurs, Edmontosaurus "mummies" have been found with skin imprints, giving scientists an unusually detailed view of how they may have looked in life. Edmontosaurus annectens shared habitat with Tyrannosaurus in the final age of dinosaurs, and may have been the largest of the hadrosaurs (popularly referred to as "duckbills").

Synonymous with Anatosaurus and Anatotitan (among others), Edmontosaurus appears in the forthcoming video game Saurian (referred to there as Anatosaurus).

Nice work, I've never seen anyone draw one of the dinomummies before they were mummies

Thanks! Julius Csotonyi has a great painting of a recently-deceased and soon-to-be-mummified hadrosaur:Β csotonyi.com/galleries/mesozoi…

AMAZING! Tough it probably needs to be called "Anatosaurus annectens"Β saurian.maxmediacorp.com/?p=54…

Thanks! I really admire and respect the work that the Saurian team is doing (and can't wait to play the game!), but as far as I know most hadrosaur researchers still use Edmontosaurus annectens?

Well, since I posted that comment I have changed my position about this. I mean: the differences used by the Saurian team to justify changing the genus are seen in animals belonging to the same genus (the skull of a brown bear ("Ursos arctos") is very different from a polar bear ("Ursus maritimus") skull. Same for lions and tigers).

There are less than 5 anatomical character differences between it and E. regalis. It's more similar to E. regalis than lions and tigers are to each other.

"may have been the largest of the hadrosaurs"

What about Shantungosaurus?

RaishinL In reply to Tarturus [2016-08-17 07:09:10 +0000 UTC]

Edmontosaurus annectes awas around the same size as Shantungasaurus and Magnipaula, the three hadrosaurs are about the same size, there is no clear winner in size between the three.
