Description
This is my newest concept of Mercedes, which is Felina's older sister. She is also an aunt to Fel's daughters, Lavinia and Malika, which explains why the genetics are a bit similar to one another. I'm not sure if I should keep the spots or not though. If you like them, that's fantastic, but if you don't, then I have a plain version that I could still tweak a bit before submitting. The black and white concepts of her will never be used again and they had been put in storage...Mercedes is my character. Please don't use her in any way or form without consulting me first. If I do give you permission, I would appreciate so much if you give me and other artists on DA the credit we deserve. Respect the artists! Art and character theft is no longer tolerated and it will be reported to the staff... Thank you.

Note 2: I had to resubmit this because I felt that the piece needed a little further tweaking. I used lighter spots on the tail and ears this time, then fixed the hair framing her face and changed the direction of the floodlight effects and it turned out better than before.
Note to self: Never attempt to rush and complete artwork in an insomniac state...
Edit: I outlined and darkened the brush spots to make them look as if they had been hand drawn and a part of Mercede's body. Hope they look better now

The hair looks really nice, and I like the anatomy and such in this one, though the toes could use some work. The shading looks kinda dodge/burny though and could use more complementary colours. As for the spots on her tail, I was wondering if you ever tried smudge-painting them a little with small and large brushes, to make them look more realistic. The pattern just looks like it was cut out from something when realistically it would bend to conform to the tail's positioning. The spots on the ears look okay but could also use some smudge-paint texturing.
Also, I noticed that the tail looks kind of like one of the button or plastic effects was used to give it highlights, and it makes it look like one of those puffy stickers. The picture still looks quite nice, but try working on things like tails and your future pics will look a lot better!
Anyhoo, you did a great job. Keep it up!

yeah i know. sometimes it's hard to work with color shading and in the end, it tends to look like you used the burn and dodge tool. it gets worse with black furred characters. at least it's not blinding like some artists we know.Β this is just a concept... i might draw up another one within the next few months and try different things with the spots but overall I like how it turned outΒ and it feels nice to have something I could call my own again.
realism isn't exactly my cup of tea... i'm more of the cartoony type i guess. but at least i tried lol

Well, the cartoony style is cool too. Just give a little bit of a fur texture and she will look awesome! And yup, it's definitely not blinding like the works of a certain somebody. I mean I really don't 'get' her... the way she talks it sounds like she got over everything, but is she still trying to contact you? Ugh. Reminds me of me, but even I wasn't *that* bad. Beh. And if I were to have a child, I would actually take care of it, rather than spending all my time playing Warcraft.
Um, anyway... I'm probably going to need a beta-reader soon. Might send my fics to Dawn or to you. Also, that one pic of Olivia that you drew, with the rosy shading... she's so beautiful! I wish a certain someone didn't ruin her.

i guess the toes could use some work too. i was trying for a combination of human/cat feet... i'm not gonna be butt hurt over this one because it's just a concept anyway and i need to get back into the habit of drawing and coloring again after being dormant through most of the year.

I think you needed to carry the spot pattern all over her body or at the very least along her back and top of the arms (so we should be able to see parts of the spots creeping around the torso and limbs), it looks a little disjointed.Β And gentle reminder that fingers and toes have joints

yeah i was thinking about it but then i was worried that it might be a little overpowering so i stuck with the ears and tail. plus mercede's parents are different... one a solid color the other spotted... fel had a different father I guess. I haven't really worked out their parents yet so it's something to think about.

i suppose i could try a light spot pattern...never really thought of it. but overall i really like this concept and it's nothing like... a certain character that gives me bad memories. it's a perfect new beginning for me and all that's left is to create a believable personality and life.

I think the outlining of the spots helps make them stand out and seem more cohesive to the entire piece. It gives them a nice hand drawn appearance. The outlining that you did had good line weight as well. I think the spot design is really unique and adds a lot to her character. I love the fact that her nose color and hair color seem to match. It's super cute that way. What color are her eyes? It's hard to tell if they are blue or green or a blue green, they are lovely but I was just curious.

as for the eyes, they were green.... then i started messing around with the saturation/vibration feature in photoshop to make her seem lighter compared to her niece lavinia and the eyes ended up becoming a sea green color. i actually kinda like it...Β

Ever since I decided to change Mercedes' colors, I started messing around with color combinations. At first I was going to have her be a chocolate brown cat with spots, but then I realized she looked to similar to your Stray so I decided against it. Then I tried other colors, but they didn't quite work either. Then i started to work withΒ the idea of her being a ginger with cream fur and it just seemed to work and everything just fell into place for me from that point on. I could have fixed her hair a bit around her chin but... overall I'm pretty happy with the piece.
Now I just got to develop this character. Her life, her personality, her abilities and her occupation. I have a rough idea in my head already but I need to work with it more so that it makes sense and everything just comes together. In all honesty, I'm almost glad the situation that lead to these changes happened as bad as it was. It made me rethink everything I have and redevelop it all into something I could be truly happy with... it will take awhile but it will be so worth it in the end.

thanks. ^_^ Of course I had to tweak this piece and submit it again because I found the spots overpowering... i used a slightly lighter shade this time and it seems to work... I think the spots might be here to stay.
