Description A quick sketch I did a couple of weeks ago. I found a new really easy method to color sketches in Photoshop, so I quickly sketched this pic of Zel so I could try it out ^.^ And it works like a charm! Now I can color my sketches much easier without having to do fancy lineart XD I can have each color on a separate layer, and I don't have to use that annoying "multiply" brush option. XD

And OMG, I finally drew a pic of Zelgadis! XD He is my favorite Slayers character, so I thought it was a bit strange that I hadn't drawn him yet XD Eventually I hope to draw the rest of the main Slayers characters in my style. Two down, three to go! XD

Oh Zelgadis, a tragic charicter cursed into a chimeria by his own grandfather, Rezo. Even if I prefer Xellos/Shabranigdo more, Zelgadis is a way cool charicter. Though I prefer how he's portrayed in the Novels then in the Anime.
Great pic of him btw, I don't know if our still drawing the slayers cast but I hope to see Xellos very soon : )

I particularly like him in the manga rendition of the series. :]
And thanks! I haven't drawn any of the Slayers gang in quite a long time, but who knows what the future might bring~!

You know, I never read any of the Slayers Manga. Does he act the same way in the Novel? (A lone strict warrior seeking a cure, sometimes aiding in Lina's quest...And Doesn't have a crush on Amelia like Kanzaka stated before?) Or the Anime version? (Following Lina everywhere he goes, not as strict or smooth, totally has a crush on Amelia, etc)
I thought since Slayers made a comeback, so should you. You have Fantastic Slayers artwork (Not only because i'm like a Slayers fan) I'm suprised I didn't see Gourry here XD

I haven't read all of the manga yet, since it's out of print and very hard to come by, but I have managed to get my hands on volumes 1-5, 7, and then the Slayers one-shot manga that follows the same basic storyline as the movie with all the octopus (I can't for the life of me remember what that one's called, even though I own it and it's actually my favorite out of the movies. I feel terrible. D: )
It's also been a long time since I read them, but if I remember correctly it seemed like manga-Zelgadis was sort of like a mix between the novel and anime versions. (He acts a little more solitary than in the anime, but he does follow the rest of the gang around everywhere. It seemed like he was used in more comedic moments in the manga as well.)

Well thanks! Yeah, Gourry's one of my favorites but somehow I've never drawn him before... Maybe I'll have to rectify that someday.

I’ve seen Amazon have used copies of the Slayers Manga all the time, there usually worth like a buck or something. I don’t really read them since there exactly like the Novels/Anime but reducing some essential characters like Zumma or Seigram. Plus that Cliffhanger volume 8 never being releashed is a bit of a bummer. (Even if it’s the same ending as in Slayers next/Slayers novel 8) I think the only one I would want to read is the Slayers Specials mangas (Since I’m still teed that Toykopop discontinued the Slayers Novels…Would have love to read Slayers 9-15 and the Slayers Specials in English) Oh I know which book your talking about, Slayers Premium. To me, I thought that was the worst Slayers Movies. Very rushed, Stupid cameos (Why Xellos? Why?) And an anticlimactic final battle with one of the stupidest Makozu’s I’ve ever seen in the Slayers universe. Nor did I enjoy the plot…I’d stick with Slayers the Motion Picture and that demonic frog lizard Royjock.
Hmm, Makes perfect sense for Zelgadis. He should act mysterious and solitude being his character and what Kanzaka wanted him to be. I guess I could tolerate the Manga version if I ever read it.

Ahh it’s no prob, Slayers fans are hard to come by these days. Been run out by the Naruto, Bleach, and now, Black butler fans XD But you should, Love to see Gourry there…And Xellos…And a little bit of Zumma XD

Yeah, I actually bought volumes 2 and 3 off of Amazon used. I try to avoid going that route though, just 'cause the people you're buying from are usually individual sellers going through Amazon, and it's not nearly as reliable as buying new from an actual reputable site. Plus, you never know exactly what condition your items are going to arrive in...
Slayers Premium, yeah that was it! It was my favorite because Naga is great and all, but I much prefer the Lina/Gourry/Amelia/Zelgadis group instead. Plus, I loved the different English voice cast that ADV gathered for the dub. I prefer watching the dubs, but some of the voices from the original series really got on my nerves.

Yeah, I don't know what people are thinking these days... :/ Slayers is so much better than Naruto/Bleach/etc could ever be....
Never been much of a Xellos fan myself, but I just might draw him someday~~ ;] We'll see~

True, true. But Amazon has this guarantee where you can get your money back from the seller if you been ripped off. I've done the Amazon Marketplace many times and only once where it happened, well twice (It was a Vampire Hunter D book I wanted, it got delayed many times until we talked with the guy, finally came. The Second was the Rare Slayers Volume 6 Novel...That one was a pain to get.)
You know, I really wanted to like that movie. (Especially listening to Naga's accursed laugh for four movies and two OVAs...Can drive people nuts XD) But 30 mins isn't so much a movie as it is a OVA. I really didn't mind Lina's voice in the movies/OVAs...Though I do prefer Lina's voice from the show...Really annoying but isn't Lina suppose to be annoying? I differ between dubs and subs...Even if the Subs sound better. Though, did you ever get that feeling while watching the Dub...Mostly in NEXT, that it started to feel a little bit like Pokemon reunion? (I was very surprised during TRY, finding out the guy who played Meouth plays Jillas the fox, So funny)

I'm just glad Slayers is back for a little bit, I mean Slayers is a tried true classic that is funny and action-packed. (Though I do feel a tiny bit guilty that I do like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece...But Slayers is Number one on my favorite Anime.) Tell me, Have you seen Revolution/Evolution-R yet?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to darkness777 [2010-09-03 23:43:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah true, I forgot how short of a "movie" it was. Was definitely more of an OVA than anything.
True that Lina's supposed to be rather annoying, but I don't know... Lisa Ortiz's voice always grates on my nerves.... And I liked the voice they had for Xellos in Slayers Premium much more than the original VA. I like both of the voices they had for Gourry throughout the years, but I especially liked him in Slayers Premium because Chris Patton was his voice actor in it, and he's my top favorite voice actor.... xD It was a real treat for me.
To be honest, I actually haven't watched the entire Slayers Next series dubbed; I saw the fansubs for it a long time ago, and then when Funimation rereleased it as a boxed set I purchased it so I could hear the dub, but I haven't had time to watch through them all yet. I think I've made it about halfway through. And the only dubbed episodes of TRY I've heard were the very last 5-or-so episodes on the old VHS copy... xD

Ah, yeah I used to like Naruto and Bleach... But after finishing the part after Orochimaru and the Hokage were battling, I gave up. The series was getting way too drawn out and it wasn't as interesting to me anymore.... I think the same thing kinda happened with Bleach; I read the manga up to volume 12 or so I think, and then just lost interest....
I've got the Slayers Revolution boxed set sitting on my shelf, but I haven't had a chance to watch it all yet.... xD;; I think I made it to episode 7 or so, and then school kicked in again and I haven't been able to finish watching it yet... I'll probably be buying Evolution-R as soon as I'm able to finish Revolution though. xD (Though a fellow Slayers fan told me that Evolution-R sort of has a fanfiction-made-true feel to it... But, she said it's still worth watching since it is Slayers after all.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darkness777 In reply to midwaymilly [2010-09-04 00:52:24 +0000 UTC]

Well I will give Slayers Premium this...It's much better then "The Scary Chimara Plan" (10 minuets of 10 times Naga Laughing...No one should have to go threw that XD)
Personally...I think Lisa Ortiz fits the character perfectly. She's suppose to grate your nerves, Lina inverse is suppose to get up in your face and say "I'm the most powerful and annoying sorceress in the land! I can do anything I want!" Well, okay sometimes it does irratate me but at least she's trying to do a good Lina Inverse.
I don't even remember Xellos' voice in Premium. (Since they added him in that movie...Just to do his catchphrase from what I heard.) And I didn't think Chris Patton was that bad, but when you listen to Eric Stuart for quite some time...Changing a character's voice can mostly be bad thing. Although he does do a good Gourry I must say. Mine was Scotty Ray as Duclis/Valgaav...It's because I'm also a huge TMNT fan and he plays the Shredder (My fave villian) in the 2003 series so I was so excited hearing his booming villian voice.

Your not really missing much with NEXT being dubbed. It's goofier yes but it's pretty much the same as Sub. I did a comparison between the English Dub and the English Translated subtitles. For the most part they follow one another, but the dub does differ sometimes. Sorry you have to suffer threw the filler eps. (Oh gosh there really bad sometimes...To me at least) I think only the last five episodes of Try are all you really need to watch. Try's just a filler season, The only to care about is Dark Star (Coming from the Lost Universe and one of the four outer demon lords) and Gourry's sword of light taken away.

I gave up Naruto after Naruto was still fighting Pain. Then I wikied what happened and was outrage that all the villians Naruto killed came right back to life. It's pain to catch up with a series like Naruto or Bleach. It took me forever to catch up to chapter 400 or whatever in One Piece.
Whenever you can, Try and watch Slayers Revolution...It get's more interesting when Zumma the assassin comes into play later on. Oh yeah, Evolution-R is so worth the money...Trying not to spoil things here but the Slayers fan is right. It does that have that Fanfic fell near the end...Or rather, Episode 10 of Slayers might be Familiar with you...

Yeah, Eric Stuart and Chris Patton both did good jobs as Gourry. Not surprisingly though, my favorite match up was Crispin Freeman for Zelgadis. ;] He has a much different voice than the original Japanese VA, but I think it fit perfectly.

Haha, I don't remember the filler episodes that much... XD (Except I think there was something that had to do with tennis...? O.o maybe..?)

I'll probably be finishing Slayers Revolution up over fall break then. These days I've been so busy I can't remember the last time I sat down and watched through an episode of anime... >:

darkness777 In reply to midwaymilly [2010-09-05 23:47:38 +0000 UTC]

Crispin Freeman….Grew on me over time. I still prefer Daniel Cronin, he portrayed the silent but suave man turned chimera perfectly. But probably the best voice out of all the Slayers movies/ovas/episodes…Was Troy Baker as Zumma. If you ever heard of Metal Gear Solid, he sounds similer to Solid Snake. I mean, my god…Troy Baker plaied a really good interpretation of the Shadow Assassin. You’ll see when you get father in the series.

I remember how much the Tennis episode ticked me off, it felt so out of character. I don’t remember much nor anything, but that’s a good thing XD

Yeah, I know how you feel. Do you know if you ever played the Slayers SNES game before? If so, do you known if it’s Canon to the series or not? I was thinking it might be following the series cause some of the characters from the Slayers Specials are in it…But it’s been bugging me if that game might be like a conclusion to the series. (Rather not spoil it just in case people are reading this or if you haven’t played the rom version yet)

I can't remember why exactly I didn't like Daniel Cronin... Maybe it was because his voice acting sounded too amateurish to me, in a sense...? I really can't remember haha

Is Zumma from the Revolution series? Name's not ringing a bell~

And Nope, I've never played the Slayers SNES game before. All the roms I've tried to play have never worked right on my computer, so I gave up trying after a while.... >:

darkness777 In reply to midwaymilly [2010-09-06 20:08:37 +0000 UTC]

I don't think he was trying as well...He could have better improved his overall charicter. Still, I think he makes a good Zelgadis.

Zumma's From Revolution/Evolution-R. You'll see when you get to him. He was also in Slayers Novels 4 and 6 too.

Oh, that's a shame to here. I only plaied for a tiny bit, it plays a lot like Dragon's quest and it's suppose to be very easy. Bit of a shame, but from what I seen...I think Xellos get's killed in the game. Which I love XD

I liked his voice; it was pretty close to the sound of the Japanese Zel. But it needed more polish....

I think I might've read the 4th novel... hmm... It's on my shelf anyway, so I assume I've read it.... xD;;

Xellos gets killed in the game?? XD As in, dead dead? Or does he come back to life afterwards?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darkness777 In reply to midwaymilly [2010-09-09 21:10:58 +0000 UTC]

The 4th you should definetly re-read, Reading the part where Prince Phil kill one of the Assassins with his BARE FIST. Was just too awsome.

I'm thinking DEAD DEAD. I mean, Xellos only lives to serve Zellas Metallium. *Warning Spoilers*

The Clone Lina Zellas made(Zellas having the real lina frozen and captured), along with Gourry, Zelgadis and Amelia all save Lina from Zellas when Xellos decides to step in. I think when he makes his big Speach "I, Xellos, will now kill and blah blah blah." means he's throwing out the cards and fighting to the death. To which They do kill him. I don't think he comes back to life, I mean Xellos is there enemy, Xellos only helps them out because Lina's group does the same thing Xellos was ordered to do by Zellas. I.E. Getting rid of Gaav, Seigam, etc.
*Spoilers done*

Ohh man, I'm so sad to see this chat dwindling down on topics. So little slayers stuff I suppose, It's a Shame, I really do enjoy chatting with you. No one at my school knows about Slayers even when I keep metioning it so it's refreashing to meet a fellow Slayers Nerd here XD

... Wow yeah, I don't even remember that part at all... XD So either I read it so many years ago that I don't even know what happened, or I just didn't read it yet... X'D

And wow... :] That's kinda neat actually, in a way I'm glad to see Zellos finally got what he had coming to him... X'D (Well, unless the game isn't considered to be canon... But still, it's amusing and interesting in the least.)

I enjoy chatting with a fellow Slayers nerd as well! :] There's not as many of them these days. It tends to get overshadowed by the more mainstream stuff.
I must ask; have you ever watched the Gokudo anime series or read the Violinist of Hamelin manga series, by any chance?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darkness777 In reply to midwaymilly [2010-09-13 19:56:16 +0000 UTC]

I think that...The battle with Zumma, the eyeball in the soup, and the final battle with Kanzel was all I remembered from book 4, And I have horrible memory of stuff like that.

I'm not really sure if the game is Canon or not...But it's the closet we have to an ending to the series. Since well, *Spoilers again* You do fight Lei Magnus as the secret final boss, to which he turns into...Ruby eye Shabranigdo, or Mecha Shabranigdo? It doesn't look like the Shabranigdo we know.

Yeah, It's a shame.
But I don't think I have ever seen Gokudo or the Violinist of Hamelin...But I did some research on Gokudo, it sounds very sweet.
Do you know more about it? Like who's the main villian? (I always care for the main baddies, Like old Shabby)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midwaymilly In reply to darkness777 [2010-09-14 00:30:45 +0000 UTC]

Ohooo, I remember something about an eyeball in the soup. That's definitely ringing a bell. I must've read it after all, somewhere along the line....

I'd go so far as to say that Gokudo and Violinist of Hamelin have both outdone Slayers, in terms of my favorite series list... (Gokudo being number one, Hamelin being number two, and Slayers coming in at third.) Both series take everything I loved about Slayers, but take it a step or two beyond. Particularly Gokudo; that show is completely off-the-wall and insane, and the characters are to die for. If ridiculous (and sometimes very random) humor is your thing, this show is golden. (It seriously gets waaaaaay wackier than Slayers at times).
Also, I've been thinking for the past 20 minutes trying to remember who the main villain is, and I think I was finally able to recall... but if it is who I'm thinking it is, I'm not going to say because it would be a very big spoiler. xD But for the majority of the series, the main character Gokudo is actually the largest recurring antagonistic force; he's a true antihero in every sense of the word. xD In a sense, he's more of a main villain than anyone else in the show.... The rest of the baddies aren't nearly as memorable as he is!

If you ever decide to check out Violinist of Hamelin as well, just remember to stay away from the anime adaptation and just stick to the manga. The reason why the manga is so great is because it's full of humor and it makes fun of itself on numerous occasions. The anime took the basic premise of the series and sucked all the humor out of it, resulting in an absolutely dreadful show. :/

Haven't seen the show, but I've seen the character pictures. Nice Zelg. ^_^

I was kind of surprised to find out his original voice. o_0 The same guy does Heero Yuy in Gundam Wing and Schuldig in Weiss Kreuz. 0_o Ugh, and Touma/Icarus in Saint Seiya: Tenkai-Hen. (I need to find Slayers somewhere. Mainly because Yasunori Matsumoto and Takehito Koyasu are in there. ^_^)

Btw, what do you think of that Gourry-guy? ...I wish I could find Yoroiden Samurai Troopers in Japanese audio somewhere so I could hear his seiyuu as Anubis. >_>

Hey, if you need some new God designs, Gourry's seiyuu (Yasunori Matsumoto) has done a character in B'tX who looks like a Norse God. ..I think.
[link]
[link]
[link]
(Actually, every time I see him now... he makes me think that Heimdall would look like that if he was older. o_0 Zaji is a one-episode character, but I still love him to death.)

Another design could be:
[link]
[link]
[link] (in this one he has some really severe headache because a high-pitched sound is making his cyborg side destroy itself from the inside)
[link] (and here he winds up fighting against the woman he's in love with. T_T)

Slayers is an excellent classic anime. XD If you can get your hands on it, I definitely recommend it. It's one of those shows that basically doesn't have much of a plot, but nobody watches it for the storyline anyway; it's all about the comedy and the hilarious batch of characters. XD Gourry is really hysterical; super-skilled swordsman with a special magic sword, but he's dumber than dirt. XD You definitely get tons of laughs from him.

And thanks for all the pics! I'll definitely keep them in mind for future designs :3 So those characters are from a show called B'tX?

Beldarius In reply to midwaymilly [2007-04-20 15:40:14 +0000 UTC]

Yup, like just like that Ron-guy.

Here is a page on the show (though it's in Italian). The image galleries are really big (you get them by clicking the "Serie TV" and "B'tX Neo" links). My favorite characters have to be Metal Face (he's zhe best), Zaji, Teppei, Fou, X, Hokuto, Ron and Karen. Plus Quatro and Kamyura.

The B'ts in the show are robots with human intelligence and emotions. The main four (X, Max, Raidoh and J'etaime) are based on the four guardians of Chinese folklore. Qilin of West (X, Teppei/Karen's B't), Tortoise of North (Max, Hokuto's B't), Dragon of East (Raidoh, Ron's B't) and Phoenix of South (J'etaime, Fou's B't).

Hmmmm, very interesting... I always like series with mythology/folklore bases.... if I ever see any DVDs to rent or something, I'll have to check it out! :3

By the way, have you seen both the sub and dub versions of Slayers? o_0 Which Zelgadis is better?

...His dub voice Crispin Freeman.. I have to say he sounds good in his roles (like Rude from FFAC), but I've heard that he's pretty much a jerk towards his fans, even making some of them cry. 0_o I'm glad I haven't tried to contact him. (...I sent an email to Vic Mignogna a while ago. >_> Haven't got a reply, so the email address might've been wrong. Even though I got it through his website.)

I actually like both his dub voice and the original Japanese voice. They sound completely different, but they both work well for Zel. XD I don't think I could decide between one or the other....

I think Vic's email is vic@vicsworld.net or something like that... and he also has an aol email address, but I can't remember what that one was....

Took the words right outta my mouth XD (Of course, it's not as if I know any other human-golem-demon chimeras to compare him to.... >.> But if there were others, Zel would easily top them all anyway XD)
