Alright, as some of my.. ok well, my only friends that I have contact with knows about my Relationship with Nintendo and myself (FYI: only recently because I love how the Nintendo DS works [link] and how it is a new way to play while I suck when it comes to consoles, First Player Shooters and 50$ games).
O.K. so I have been following news for the Nintendo Revolution, the Successor to the Nintendo GameCube with a new controller that allows you to interact with games like never before [link] (Would you rather repeatedly press A to do sword slashes or would you actually swing around a sword and interacting the game directly?!) and I have been following the News Religiously .. shamefully lol :smile: well... This whole time it has been called the "Nintendo Codename: Revolution" or the "Nintendo Revolution," which I think was very appropriate because it symbolized a revolution of how games are played and instead of learning 8 buttons and 4 analog sticks, you just do what you would do: in a sword game, swing the controller like a sword; in a shooting game, you point and shoot. O.K. so all this time, we did not learn the name and everyone came up with their own names and thought up possibilities.. and after all that talk.... The Nintendo Revolution became...

pronounced like we as in "We will rock you"
.. When I first heard of this, I looked and thought like the picture, WTF!? How can you go from a "Revolutionary" game Machine to ... "Wii"!?.. All over the internet I heard so many things about it: the Good "Wii will Rock you", the Bad "Wii suck!", and the ugly "Wii Wii!! Pee Pee!" ... Immature humans.. but it does seem logical, a gaming company that brought so much good to the Gaming Industry (analog stick, rumble pack, wireless controller, L R buttons, all which Sony Stole and you know it) and with understandable and not ugly System names (NES, SNES, N64, GameCube).. and they come out with this!? Wii!?!?!?
.. That was.. 8 hours ago.. and I am starting to recover since I kept reading up on what is happening as Nintendo has said that "Wii will change everything" and how crazy names (Google, iPod, Virgin) all are weird at first then become common place and how they should create a name that all audiences will recieve well. I have even noticed that some people have started up petitions to urge Nintendo to change the name back to Revolution or at least another name, but Nintendo is being smart, hiding their facts, showing stuff that causes uproar, speculation, and overall talk that would lead them to their next conference or such and if you actually read this far, I appreciate you taking the time to read.
I was at least content with Revolution but also felt that whatever name they will do would be fine (BlueWave, GO, REVO, etc) but.. No one predicted this, this is a shock and all the PS3/360 fanboys will be making fun of the Nintendo fanboys at E3 as the Nintendo Fanboys are playing Wii with their "Wiimotes" (the new Nintendo Revolution Controller name apparently, previously it was Revmote.. which was awesome)
...Perhaps this is a ploy of Nintendo's, causing up hurt for gamers then healing the wounds by telling the real name at E3...
For me, it doesn't matter why name is finalized because I will be waiting 48 hours in line waiting for my System ^_^ but I do not want to hear any more "Wii = urinating" jokes or how "Wii" is not a badass name like PS3 or Xbox360. but this could hurt 3rd Party Developers under a weird slowly accepted name of a Great console. ... for now, I will call the Wii my "Nintendo wiiRevolution" or "weRevolution" .. in memory of the "iPod"
and let me just say this, if you do comment on this, do not post any PS3/360 PWNZ or Nintendo Sux0rs!.. I love all systems, I am also getting a PS3 (ready for it) and a Xbox360 (when it lowers in price...), and what Nintendo is doing is just like what they did for the Analog Stick, you know you love the stick! so Respect innovators because thats what drives society (You think making the atom bomb was used with conventional thinking like putting fire on stuff?)

The name "Wii" is just meant to be a clever name to show it is playable by everyone gaming expert or not hence the name "Wii". It's just another way of saying "we", as in, "we can play" or something. It may be a bit silly but that's not stopping me from getting one.

The problem is the majority of the demographic of society will think "LOL WII HAY GUYS WANNA TOUCH MY WII, WANNA PLAY WITH MY WII? I HAVE TO WII GUYS". It's clever in the sense that someone actually gets it, but the majority will make endless jokes from the name...and I think that would actually affect sales...

Yeh, I thought "WTF" when I first heard of it to. I then thought, "Has my beloved Nintendo finally gone insane?" Then I figured, "Hey, I didn't like the conrtoller idea when I first heard of it either, we'll all get used to the new name to."
Oh well, they could've named it worse, I guess... I'll most likely get the Wii out of the three next-gen consoles. Nintendo usually has the majority of games I like. (Plus the downloading of classic games, is a dream come true to a retro gamer like myself. But I doubt it'll be free.)

Say what you want, but it more than served it's purpose. I haven't seen a single site not talking about it. It's a genius marketing plow. They deliberately chose something so absurd that everyone has to talk about it. Bravo Nintendo.

Very true, the name has caused such an uproar that it has caused many different sites including major news sites such as CNN take notice. Even though I don't mind the name as much as I did when I first heard it, I just hope that Nintendo didn't sacrifice the long term profit for a short term shock.
I will still buy the Wii of course because that machine is going to kick ass! just hope it doesn't hurt profit and hopefully the Wii does what the DS is doing in terms of bringing many types of people into the mix ^_^

But the way Nintendo is going, even though they are kicking ass and taking names with Reggie Fils-Aime, I just hope they didn't let this recent streak go to their head and make a mistake; But then again, look at Google, iPod, Yahoo.

Well.. Its better than renaming them to Super Mario Wii. lol I had the same idea, why not "Wii Super Mario Bros" pronounced "We Super Mario Bros" (Dawg) lol showing that you are the Super Mario Bros ^_^ I always thought it was a good idea lol
But yea.. Hopefully it either changes to something badass like "iPod"(but then again, no one knew what the hell an iPod was and now its a badass name) or it does what it was suppose to do and win those NonGamers over and do what the DS has been doing ^_^
