UPDATE: Ok, here's the final...for now.-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a concept I finished last night.
Well it's almost finished, needs a few more details like skin texture, but I thought I'd post it anyway.
- Photoshop (Thumbnails to Paint - 12 hours)
I am going to model this in 3D next.

I came up with this process through trial and error.
I use a ColorDodge brush for highlights (careful not to make it over bright, it will blast to white fairly quickly)
And for shadows I use a Multiply layer, I paint the shadows in then erase alot away until I get what I want.
