Description Here's my second piece of "thanks for buying me a new PC" art. for Adi Cox, who is a fan of the Mysterious Cities of Gold. His hobbies include finding secret gold on a mountain trail high in the Andes, and dreaming of following the path of the setting sun that leads to Eldorado, etc etc.

Mendoza is evil!

I just got the dvd set last and loved every minute of it as it took me back to my childhood! I would'nt say Mendoza is all evil however but thats my option about that. Great artwork btw!

See! See! Others don't believe me, but there are people out there, people who know the truth! The truth that Mendoza is evil! He is you know, you might not think it, but you at his actions. It is evil that runs through those veins!

Well his was evil to start off with as with most men he was after gold and would take it at any cost. But like Piccolo in Dragon ball z he became good hearted after hanging around with kids as it was shown by Mendoza taking down his own men who wanted to ditch the kids to reach the cities of gold.

Mendoza needed the kids so he had to stay with them and try to get some of their trust. he is the unexpected kind of guys. he might have some spanish evil. and he was not the kind of guys who like to do good without betting something in exchange... but in my opinion, his character was among the ones who made the series interesting...

I think he did!
Have you watched Cities of Gold recently? I remember it being OK as a kid, but I watched it a couple of months back with my adult brain and art-appreciator's eyes and BLOODY HELL. The boat is completely animated the whole time! Nowadays (and even in the golden age of anime) you'd just draw a boat and slide it along, but in Cities of Gold the ship in the first few episodes is fully hand-animated as it goes through all these turns and rotations and stuff... madness! I hope those starving Chinese inbetweeners got paid a lot!

good thing he did because it is really awesome
(not like my mylene crap "artwork"XD

Yeah I know~~ I mean is so very ghibli in some places too!isnt it?! Like in the first episode when esteban is running in that cape. my jaw kinda dropped...my childhood memories of it being beautiful was not exaggerated. I tried to watch it again but the dub is just so horrendous I can't handle it T^T;;

I did like it. It sits, stuck on my computer at work for all to see! Especially with all of it's glorious, dubious connotations. One has to wonder where the other 6 golden phallus filled cities are!
It replaces the previous Otaking artwork of British Bomber! [link]

To truly appreciate the master piece this is, you have to enjoy how the sun is behind them, yet reflecting off the back of the boat! How can this be?! Watch the first episode and you will see the true power of the child of the sun!

Let me know when you need a car, your fan-art-paybacks are clearly worth the iron chains of crushing debt.

This is brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

So, it takes a PC in order to bribe you to do fanart? Gee, you're expensive!

What can I say? I am such high quality that bribes must be massively high to coax me out of my sleeping bag.

I have very vague memories of this show, and having just youtubed it, the theme song evokes even vaguer memories.

Can't remember anything about what it was about, only that in the late 80s/early 90s it was on (in Australia) before Doctor Who.
