Most of Runar’s early life was spent in the care of his elderly grandparents. While they lived a simple life, as he grew, Runar tended to dream of bigger things, wanting a chance to grasp something more.
It was this, and a gift of a very wobbly Spinda, that drove him to attempt the league challenge, carving his way through the gyms of his region.
Years of travelling the land taught Runar much more than he ever could have learned from the small town where his grandparents lived, though not all of the lessons he learned were good ones.
It was in his late teens, with a league win under his belt, that he found himself drawn to games of chance, card games, roulettes, you name it. With the help of a couple of pokemon from his team, Bebe (his spinda) and Natalia (his Gothitelle), he found himself raking in win after win.
Over time the three of them became quite the trio, Runar having become familiar with the rules of different games, varying body language and ticks and control over his own emotions and expressions. These new skills mixed with Natalia’s psychic typing and Bebe’s distractions made for the perfect mix. He worked his way through casinos and then into bars, finding the atmosphere to be much better for reading people.
All good things must come to an end however, and it wasn’t long before Runar and his team garnered the wrong kind of attention, the lot of them being pulled into a life of rigging games and bartering, the latter used for Intel over money. People were willing to bet anything when they were desperate enough after all.
After a few years he'd had enough, there wasn’t much left for him in his home region, which made it much easier for him to find his way towards Issho.

Using the money he’d stashed away, he snatched up a run down two story building, using the upper floors as a living space. Over the years he learned bartending as he worked on the place, fixing up both his living space and the lower floors, which he’d transformed into a decent little place to drink at. Dedicating the place to his first, and still very wobbly, pokemon.

If the alcohol doesn’t draw you in, then there’s plenty more to do on the lower floor. Unable to completely detach himself from his past, Runar offers games of poker and blackjack, winner take all.
