Erm....just because you're with someone doesn't mean the other one can't have his/her own life, sweetheart.

Like the lake? Oh, the clash of education. It leaves and audible ring. Bren's face is priceless, too.
Aaaaand it is out. I guess now is Jurina's turn to be somewhat confused about that bed that was just made for her. Cal has good instincts, though, possessively grabbing his precious-to-be and challenging Bren in revealing his intentions. No hesitation. Has he smelt -- dun dun DUN -- a rival?

Despite the comment mix-up it will be easier to answer here. And so I shall!
Stories are my most favorite hobby and profession. As an avid reader of good/mediocre/bad/abysmal books, I always try to understand what went right and what went wrong. Character motivation plays a big part in that respect. If this is something you barely need think about in order to write your comic, it speaks well of your skill and instincts. If I seem to grasp something you weren't aware of, then I'm only giving voice to something you construed, intentionally or not. But thank you for noticing; my attempts to impress have born fruit at last!
I have to disagree here. For Brendon it would be even more difficult to be accepted as a member of the Royal Guard for a few rather simple reasons. One, he stems from a poor family without significant rank. Two, he used to be a wanted criminal. Three, rumors will spread that Brendon attained his position not through standing and effort like practically everybody else, but only - and only - because the Queen wished it so (which is true); he would be seen as the least of the Royal Guardsmen, and more fantastic rumors would spread from there throughout the nobility. Fact is, not title nor rank can command respect if the person himself didn't command any to begin with.
If I were Calenhad, I would see Brendon as a lowlife trying to retcon his way into credibility by using his clout with the Queen.
That said, if I were Calenhad I may not be privy to all these facts, and then I would see a member of the Royal Guard intentionally dragging my name through the mud despite knowing full well that it's not the freaking lake, all in front of my fiancé, the bastard! Arrogance! Ignorance! Hubris! As you may have gleaned, I am neither Calenhad nor famed for my angelic temper. But something like that.

you are certainly right in some aspects... but, as I see it and as I thought the idea of the royal guard for my comic, I must say some things.
Mikania created the royal guard by herself when the blight ended and she chose its members, regardless their social position and stuff like that. I mean, she chose those people who helped her in the blight and showed her their loyalty and strength. So, among the royal guards there are people of noble birth, like Jeff, the captain, but also people that has nothing to do with nobility. Mikania, even being from a very noble family, had learnt that there are more important things and she didn't want a royal guard only to pretend or like a rich and noble private club. that's why she wanted Brendon to be one of them, even when she didn't know him and he tried to kill her in the first place. As she said when she invited him to go with her "she had a hunch" about him.
that said, I agree with you when you say that probably Calenhad could see this a mere favorable treatment by the Queen and that, being from a lower social class, Brendon doesn't have the right to be in that important position. I'm sure many nobles and people of Ferelden think that way about Brendon.

It is a name to be proud of. It carries heavy significance. Can't be easy living with a name that has so many expectations attached. His parents must be arrogant, choosing exactly that name for their son. Royalty complex and delusions of grandeur at their finest.

well, you know, noble families usually expect a lot of their children and I guess you can say that Calenhad's father is like Jurina's in some formal and tradicional ways
